Peach State LSAMP Program

Goals The goal the Peach State LSAMP program is to help underrepresented minority students gain the knowledge and research experiences needed to become successful members of the STEM workforce. The program has four major focus areas.  Academic enrichment LSAMP Scholars hold tutoring sessions for its members and for other students. An example of this is the weekly tutorial sessions held over a 10-week period each semester.  Research Research of any kind is encouraged among members; those who do are encouraged to present their work at local, state, regional, and national conferences. A great example is the research study abroad trip to India with a focus of study in Biotechnology.  Outreach STEM sponsors community outreach activities with the local schools to help ensure that entering college students are well prepared to meet the rigors of college studies. Examples of these activities include a summer science camp for middle school students, and a summer research camp for high school students.  Leadership STEM scholars are assisted in developing the leadership skills needed to ensure their own undergraduate academic success. They develop these skills by fully managing the STEM Scholars Program, and attending a variety of conferences, Ex: Medical College of Georgia Conference, Washington BEYA conference Stipend LSAMP Scholars will obtain stipends through funds of the LSAMP program. Requirements: must be an underrepresented minority and have a GPA of at least 2.8. The amount of each stipend will be determined by the quality and quantity of time devoted to research. Stipends generally range between $200-$500.
