BRITISH UNIVERSITIES NETBALL SEASON’S INFORMATION 2005-2006

1. Introduction

This pack contains an overview of the Netball season 2005-2006. You are advised to keep this pack with you throughout the season to refer to when you have queries.

2. Sports Management Group (SMG)

Netball does not have an SMG at present. The appropriate Governing Bodies will be referred to for advice where necessary.

3. Information Sources & Communication Lines

If you require further information throughout the year your first port of call is your Athletic Union / Sports Office.

The BUSA Weekly Mailout is available on www.busa.org.uk on the second working day of each week and contains information on BUSA Events.

The SPORT webpage will also provide you further information and news and can be found at www.busa.org.uk/netball

4. Rules & Regulations

When participating in BUSA Competitions you must ensure you are aware of the Rules and Regulations to which you are playing. You should familiarise yourself with these regulations and always have a handbook nearby to refer to. You should be aware of the following regulations:

BUSA General Regulations – these relate to all sports. BUSA Sports Specific Regulations – these relate to netball only and are attached in Appendix 1 to this pack. The changes for the forthcoming season have been highlighted. NGB’s Laws of the Sport – you should be aware of the NGB Laws of the Sport which can be obtained by visiting at http://www.netball.org

5. Calendar of Events

Team Championships

Fixtures commence: Wednesday 19 October Fixtures finish: Sunday 12 February

Knock outs: Last 16: 1 March 06 Quarter Finals: 8 March 06 Semi Finals: 15 March 06 Finals (Plate & Vase): 22 March 06 Finals (Championship, Trophy & Shield): 26 March 06 (at Indoor Finals, English Institute of Sport Sheffield)

6. Championship Information

The Netball league structure is attached in Appendix 2. You should note that the leagues have been fully integrated for the 2005-2006 season.

Depending on your final league position, you may qualify for a knock out competition. The qualification details will be listed at the top of your league on www.busa.org.uk. Currently the following knock out competitions are being offered:

Netball Team Championship, Shield, Plate, Trophy and Vase

You should note that any team that concedes a voluntary walkover will not be able to proceed to a knock out competition, even if they finish in a qualifying position. You should also be aware of REG 14.10 and REG 14.11 which details how teams are split should they finish on equal points in the league.

7. Results

Results are input directly onto the website by the competing institutions. It is the responsibility of the HOME institution to enter the result by 6pm on the day of the fixture for Premier League teams, or 5pm on the working day following the fixture for all other teams.

If a result has not been entered please contact your Athletic Union / Sports Office. If it is a result of an away fixture, ask your Athletic Union / Sports Office to contact your opposition.

Any disputes with results must be made immediately and NOT at the end of the league programme. It is therefore IMPERATIVE that you regularly check your league to ensure that it is correct and up to date.

Your performances in BUSA Competitions will contribute to your institutions points tally in the BUSA Overall Championships. You can view the Overall Table throughout the year at www.busa.org.uk/overallpoints

8. Talented Athletic Scholarship Scheme

The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) is a government funded scheme to help talented athletes who wish to progress with a formal academic programme but maintain an involvement in performance sport.

Please note that Netball is a TASS sport.

9. Representative Programme

The following representative programme will be run in the 2005-2006 season:

Domestic Representation The following teams will compete in the British University Games to be held at UW Swansea from 10-13 April 06.
