Updated 3 April 2018 GOVERNOR GENERAL’S MEDALS The Governor-General's Medals to reward scholastic merit were established in 1873 by the Earl of Dufferin, who served as Governor-General from 1872 to 1878. Originally, the Gold Medal was awarded to the student with the highest academic standing on graduation. In 1988 a Silver Medal was introduced and since that time the Gold Medal has been awarded to the student with the highest academic standing in the Graduate degree program, and the Silver Medal to the Honours (fourth year) student with the highest academic standing on graduation in the Bachelor's program.

About the Artist

Dora de Pedery-Hunt, an internationally renowned sculptor, was commissioned to design the President Symons' Medal and the Bagnani Medal.
