------Employability and Health Showcase Event

With the ending of the National Employability and Health Innovation Network (NEHIM) Events a gap for the promotion of best practice in the field of health and work has been identified. Building on the successful event of October 2010 it is hoped to hold an event in the spring of 2012 to showcase best practice. Our 2010 event had been planned by a sub group of the HEDG and again we are looking for volunteers to be part of the planning group. If you are interested drop me an email or give me a call, or if you have any ideas you think we should consider for workshops or speakers let me know also. 6 Michelle.gibson@ scotland.gsi.gov.uk 0300 244 1338

Note: this event will now be fully funded from the Employability and Tackling Poverty Division. ------

Chair of the Group In keeping with other external stakeholder groups, we are seeking a non SG person to chair the group. The Chair person would meet with myself to discuss and plan agendas, meetings and work. They would also represent the group at the NDG quarterly meetings either giving a brief update in person and or a short written brief into meeting papers. It is not a big commitment time wise but it is an important role in ensuring that the HEDG is representing the interests of health professionals involved in employability work and in 7 ensuring that health is kept on the agenda a national employability meetings.

If you are interested or want to discuss your interest further please give me a call or email me. Michelle.gibson@ scotland.gsi.gov.uk 0300 244 1338 ------

Updates: Welfare Reform Paper Thank you to all who made comments on the draft welfare reform paper. The paper will now be re drafted to include the comments. We have also had agreement from the ‘Deep End GPs’ to comment on the final draft, these are GPs working in the most deprived areas in Scotland. I will get the redrafted paper to you all by the end of the month.

There was some discussion on how the paper would be distributed and some useful suggestions on people, groups and forums. It was agreed to compile a suggestion list of 8 these for circulation. If you can send me any suggestions that you mentioned at the meeting I can pull this together.

The general consensus was that there was no quick way to do this and that it was down to individual to use a multi strand approach and target as many audiences as they felt was useful.

------Sandra McGuire Renfrewshire Update 1 0 Renfrewshire's Workforce Plus Phase 1 ceased operation on 30th June. Phase 2 will be known as Renfrewshire Employability Partnership and there will be a focus on supporting 16-24 year olds.. The project will be smaller in size with the partner strucure will also change and is yet to be finalised. Renfrewshire CHP will not be going forward as a partner in Phase 2. Funding for the Health & Employability team came via European monies aligned to the programme with NHSGGC 1 employing the staff. Two staff, John Barber and Denise Mcdaid, are on a 90-day 1 redeployment scheme within NHSGGC from July to September.

Talks are still to take place regarding the way forward for employability within RCHP and as part of the wider NHSGGC partnerships. I will keep the HEDG updated of any relevant information as it becomes available.

------Letters to GPs on welfare reform We are aware that some areas are sending out letters to GPs and are keen to know about any. NHS Dumfries and Galloway have kindly allowed us to circulate the letter and information sheet they have used which may be useful to other areas, it was a joint letter with JC+ and the GP.
