CrossTalk January 6, 2016 JUST A THOUGHT… Happy New Year, Everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful Advent, Christmas and New Year together with your family and friends! Personally – I’m glad to be home to get some rest… With the new year comes some very exciting new opportunities of service and worship together. Remember…Our Adult and Children’s Bible Study on the Book of John begins on Sunday. I hope you’ll make every effort to come and bring your children. Both events start at 8:45 AM. I’ll also be bringing a short Object-Centered Children’s Sermon during the Worship Service beginning on Sunday. I’ve always found it interesting to see how adults respond to children’s sermons! Join us, won’t you? Then on January 15, we’re beginning a short Sermon Series on the Lord’s Prayer. We say it each Sunday, but what do the words mean to us today? We’ll study that together. It’ll be good to be back together and to catch up on the holidays. Bring your Bible to Sunday School and Church on Sunday…I’ll look forward to seeing you here! Steve UPWORDS “Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left,” (Joshua 23:6). ADULT BIBLE STUDY BEGINS JANUARY 8 A Study of John’s Gospel 8:45 AM Each Sunday CHILDREN’S BIBLE STUDY BEGINS JANUARY 8 In conjunction with our Adult Bible Study, our Children will also be participating in their own age-specific Study of the Book of John. This Study will begin at 8:45 AM and will conclude at 9:45. At that time, the Children will join us at 10:00 AM, and we’ll integrate a short Children’s Sermon into the Worship Service. Please pray for this wonderful opportunity together! KNOW YOUR BIBLE Everyone on Earth spoke the same language until the incident at the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9).

LORD’S PRAYER SERMON SERIES BEGINS JANUARY 15 We say it every Sunday. We can say it with our eyes closed! It’s the Lord’s Prayer – but what do those words mean? When Jesus said “…pray like this…” how personal is the prayer to us? We’re going to talk about it. We’re going to break it down and study that great Example and what it means to us as we pray. Join us…beginning on January 15 for this insightful series together! UPCOMING SCHEDULE JANUARY 8 Country Inn & Suites Bible Study – 8:45 AM Worship – 10:00 AM JANUARY 15 Country Inn & Suites Bible Study – 8:45 AM Worship – 10:00 AM QUOTE OF THE WEEK “People need revelation. CROSSTALK REFERENCES If you know of someone who might like to receive “CrossTalk” each week…a friend or family member…or prospect…Just send their name and e-mail address to me ([email protected]) – or see me on Sunday – and I’ll make sure they get it. BOOK OF COMMON PRAYER APP FOR YOUR PHONE Many of you have commented on the readings we commit to on Sunday mornings. Those are from the Book of Common Prayer. If you’d like to have that study opportunity each day, you can download an APP for your phone that’ll allow you to commit Bible verses to instruction and memory every day. Find BCP (the icon is a black Bible with a Cross on the front) in your phone’s APP Store. It’s a free download! And additionally, when you get to a particular day – say, November 18 – you can hit the arrow (upper right hand corner) and it’ll read the verses aloud for you. It’s a great way to continue to read God’s Word daily…! COWBOY WISDOM Only a fool argues with the cook. TRIVIAL PURSUITS Almost half the bones in your body are in your hands and feet. CHILDREN’S MINISTRY Be a part of our Children’s Hour! Our children have certain needs and attention spans, and we’re moving to address that need. If you’re interested in helping in this most important ministry, just see me or Tina Butterfield or Jennifer Winslett on Sunday. And bring your children on Sunday. A Sign-Up Sheet is available! OUR DAILY BREAD Ninety percent (90%) of all Christians have never read the Bible through. Amazing! We’re read the Bible through as a Church Family this year, with a combination of Old Testament and New Testament readings. This should average out to be two or three chapters per day. Sunday, January 8: Genesis 8, Matthew 8; Monday, January 9: Genesis 9-10, Matthew 9; Tuesday, January 10: Genesis 11, Matthew 10; Wednesday, January 11: Genesis 12, Matthew 11; Thursday, January 12: Genesis 13, Matthew 12; Friday, January 13: Genesis 14, Matthew 13; Saturday, January 14: Genesis 15, Matthew 14. CROSS CHURCH MISSIONS OPPORTUNITIES Little Things Can Mean a Lot Pill Bottles In developing third-world nations, there aren’t enough pill bottles to go around. It’s often that tissue paper is used to wrap up medicine (pills & tablets) to send home with patients. Wonder what to do with your empty pill bottles when they’re empty? Peel off the personal information label and bring them with you to Church. We’ll gather them up and send along to Matthew 25:Ministries for distribution. That’s all you have to do to make a big difference in someone’s life. Thanks! Hotel Sundries Gather up those hotel soaps and shampoos and bring them to Church with you. These small contributions make a big difference in the life of a family with immediate personal needs through our local homeless shelters.

Soda Can Tabs Soda can tabs make a difference in a child’s life at St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis. We all know someone whose life has been altered at St. Jude’s. Bring those tabs along with you each week for recycling! PRAYER REQUESTS Let’s talk about prayer requests…If you have any prayer requests you’d like to share with our group – and I know not all prayer requests ought to be made public – send them along to me, along with their relation to you (Example: Don Porter, Cousin to Steve Fowler). I’ll post them here and we can know where our hearts are coming from on a regular basis.
