Newbery Book Report

Use the templates and directions that follow to create a Newbery Book Report. After you finish the report, each page should be cut out, hole punched, and fastened with two brads or stapled. Please remember to be neat and use proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

Requirements- Check off each requirement after you completed it.

______1. Cover- Use template 1 and in the center of the medal, write the name of the book and the author’s name in a creative way. Also, include your name at the bottom.

______2. Page 1- Use template 2 and label it: SUMMARY at the top.

Then, write at least three to four paragraph summary of the book. It should include a brief description of the following: main characters, setting, major events, the problem in the story, the solution of how the problem gets solved, and the ending of the story.

______3. Page 2- Use template 2 and label it: WHY THIS BOOK IS A WINNER.

There must have been a good reason your book was a Newbery Medal Winner. What was it about your book that made it so outstanding? Write a complete and thoughtful paragraph. Cite specific examples from the book to support your feelings and include the page number.

______4. Page 3- Use template 3 and label it: FAVORITE SCENE

Draw a picture of your favorite scene from the book. Write a sentence describing the scene below it. Fill up all of the white space on the page with a colorful, detailed picture.

1. The book report is written or typed neatly.

2. The summary is detailed and accurate. It is written in three to four complete paragraphs.

3. You give reasons the book won a Newbery award in an insightful, thoughtful paragraph. You cite examples from the book and include page numbers on which the examples can be found.

4. The picture is detailed and creative. A complete sentence is used to describe each picture.
