Some more facts about the Japan Soccer team

The Japanese soccer team is commonly known as, "Sakkaa Nippon Daihyou (サッカー日本代表) ", "Nippon Daihyou (日本代表)". The official nickname of the team is, "Samurai Blue (サムライブルー)". It is also known by the name of the manager's last name. For example, "Okada Japan (岡田ジャパン) ", under Takeshi Oakada in 2010. "Zac Japan (ザックジャパン)" in short, under, Alberto Zaccheroni, in 2014.

The mascots for the team are "Karappe" (カラッペ) and "Karara" (カララ), two Yatagarasu wearing the Japan national football team uniform. Yatagarasu is a three-legged crow that is found in various mythologies and arts of Asia. It is believed by many cultures to inhabit, and represent the sun.The mascots were designed by Japanese manga artist, Susumu Matsushita. Each year when a new uniform is launched, the mascots change their uniforms as well.

The current home uniform consists of a blue jersey with a Rising Sun mark on the chest, blue shorts with bright pink patches on the side. Japan uses blue and white rather than red and white, which are the colors of the national flag, due to a superstition.
