The Headlines: President Kiir launches back to learning campaign Proposal to extend the president’s mandate presented to parliament The former Spokesperson for the SPLA in opposition returns to Juba
President Salva Kiir today launched a campaign to send 4oo thousand children to school across the country
The Back to Learning Campaign, a joint initiative between development partners and the ministry of education aims to encourage children to return to school after their education was interrupted by the conflict.
Speaking at the launch, President Kiir explained the need for peace and learning.
The Minister of Justice, Paulino Wanawilla, has presented a proposal to the National Assembly that seeks to extend the mandate of the presidency.
The bill, approved by the council of ministers last week, extends the tenure of the office of the president and the national legislature for a further two years while the constitutional review commission will continue until the end of 2016.
Paulino Wanawella tabled the document to the legislators today
Paulino Wanawella: “ A bill to amend 66, 100, 200, 202 and 203 of the transitional constitution 2011 for extension of the mandate and tenure of office of the president and national legislature and the extension of the mandate and tenure of national constitutional review commission. The term of the current national legislature is hereby extended from July 9 2015 to July 9 2017; article 101 and 102, the tenure of the office of the president of the republic of South Sudan is hereby extended from July 9 2015 to July 9 2017.”
The legislators have 30 days to scrutinize the document and present their report.
A peace conference bringing together representatives from all 64 tribes in South Sudan has concluded in Juba.
At the closing ceremony, Simon Kun Puoch, the governor of Upper Nile State said peace for South Sudan will only be achieved when all citizens renounce violence.
Simon Kun Puoch: “Peace is with us and not from outside. We are the people to bring peace, not Addis Ababa talks or anywhere (else). It is us. If we sit today and we the warring parties stop fighting, they will stop fighting. If we say today we are not going to allow you to take our children and we stop our children from going to fight, they will not fight. We don’t want war. We want peace.”
The chairperson of the peace conference organizing committee, Aggrey Abate, explains some of the major issues that were discussed during the conference.

Speaking to journalists at Juba International Airport, Brigadier Lul Ruai Koang, says he hopes his return will expedite the peace process in the country.
The former spokesperson for the SPLA in opposition announced the formation of a new party, the South Sudan Resistance Movement / Army in a press conference in Nairobi yesterday. He says he decided to form the party in order to partner with the government in the search for peace in the country.
Meanwhile, the Chief Administrator of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area, David Yau Yau applauded his return.
A surgical team from the National Ministry of Health has completed more than 200 medical examinations and 30 surgeries for eye conditions in Pibor administrative area of Jonglei State.
Dr. Ali Yousif Ngor, of the Department of Eye services in the Ministry of Health, is calling on people who suffer from eye diseases to visit the free clinic for treatment in the next four weeks.
Dr. Ngor: “On Monday and Tuesday, we detected about 200 people, including about 20 cases of cataract and 34 operations carried out. We are prepared all these to get operations and yesterday evening we were have been preparing and clearing the operating room, and now as I am talking with you, we have prepared patients for operations we will have two days a week to work and operations will continue during the next four weeks.”

Police and other organized forces are stepping up security to control the rising incidences of robbery in the city.
Police say criminals have shifted their targets from the Banks and other financial facilities to individuals.
Central Equatoria State Police Commissioner, Henry Danima, has advised the community to be on high alert.
Henry Danima: “Armed robberies have increased in Juba city. We are advising the community and the public not to carry large amounts of money as they get the money from the bank. There is a phenomenon of the criminals following people carrying large amount of money – they either attack or by the time you park your car they may break into the car and take valuables from the car so people have to be very careful. Almost every week since the middle of January, there has been a case. We are coordinating with our colleagues in the National Security and the CID to trace and find out about this people.”
South Sudan national kickboxing federation has been invited to participate in the African inter-continental championship scheduled for October in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The chairperson of the national federation, Poro Okelo, says the invitation is a good opportunity for the national kickboxing federation to exhibit its talent.
Poro Okelo: “The African continental championship is going to take place in South Africa from 1 October to 4 October 2015. Our training is going on very well. As you can see, we have good equipment. We make sure we are going ahead and kickboxing is going to really rise in this nation.”
In local sports, Gazala FC of Wau traveled to Cairo to play the second leg of their African Confederation Cup tournament against Petro Jet FC.
On to the qualifiers tournament in Yambio, Makongo FC secured the match point after a two-nil win over super Stars last night at the Budwaya Stadium.
In Abyei, Fankuel FC has qualified to the division one stage after beating Agon Biak two-nil in Bentiu and the Governors Cup kicks off next week in Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal State with participation of sixteen teams from division one and two.
In today’s matches Nile city faces cobra in the semifinal of the George Costa football championship while in Abyei Mading Shuwang takes Gelb al Ased.
In Bentiu, Romiar FC is playing against Bimnum at Estiglal playground.
