COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OBJECTIVES:

This is a one credit on line course designed to further your career advancement. Since you all have different career goals and are at different points in your education, it will be individualized to fit your own needs as to how to progress. You will be presented with a variety of materials and will choose from them to meet your own needs. I and several other individuals will also be available for face to face meetings if you desire. You will be expected to communicate with the instructor on a regular basis with the instructor and your classmates through the drop box and the discussion sections on D2L.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The objectives are to 1. Deliver opportunities for personal support, feedback and one on one coaching/counseling/advising. 2. Offer a community for students who are facing similar challenges and opportunities. 3. Provide structure and impart knowledge, resources, and insights which will help students clarify career direction and develop skills to secure meaningful employment or advancement in their chosen field. More specifically for you to: 4. Specify your goal 5. Delineate the steps needed to achieve that goal 6. Research available resources needed for those steps 7. Complete the steps 8. Self reflect on your actions 9. Learn to networking

Communicating on A regular & timely basis 6. Self Reflection More specifically you will begin with 25 points and lose a point if 1. You have not posted in the discussion forum during a minimum of the 7 required times= 7 points 2. You haven’t read and responded to all your peer’s postings a minimum of 7 times=7 points 3. You have not put required materials in the drop box before it closed. This includes a total of 11 points for the drop box. Final Polished Work and list of actions (if networking or interviewing, or searching job sites and companies=7 List of interview questions/answers, preparation and hints=3 Reflection=2

Discussion Forum Assignments: A response must be 3 or more sentences and include substantive ideas or insights. Just saying "I agree" or "something similar is not acceptable. Most of your drafts are due in the discussion forum as well as the drop box so that you can make CONSTRUCTIVE comments to each other based on your own experiences and your reading and research.

D2L Material is listed by topic and week. Skim over that section. Then depending on your goal and the steps you plan on taking use that material as a starting point and read what you need more carefully or listen to the videos. Your internet searches, informational interviewing and networking, if utilized, will depend on the sources you find and may be good to share in the discussion section.

Administrative Policies: 1. Assignments must be completed as scheduled. In case of medically excused illness or a conflict, arrangements are to be made with the instructor prior to the due date.

2. Drop policy: 4th week of classes and have it not appear on your transcript; 8th week of classes with the approval of the instructor or department. After the 8th week, the Dean must sign.

4. Credit hour policy. This is a one credit class. Therefore, you should devote at least 2 to 3 hours a week for reading, writing , networking and searching.
