BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2014

The Tri-County Special Education Interlocal No. 607 governing Board met in regular session on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 in Independence at the Tri-County central office building at 6:30 p.m.

Board members present were: Bill Freeman, Fredonia; Tonya Bell, Neodesha; Gina Booe, Cherryvale; Don Barcus, Parsons; Scott Hines, Independence; and Darlene Sanders, Caney.

Others present were: Julie Bruington, Director; Kevin Shepard, Assistant Director; Emily McCambridge and Kerri Stevens, Elementary Coordinators; Jeff Price and Sherry Dunlay, Secondary Coordinators, Malinda Williams, Elementary Teacher at Jefferson School, and Mary Costley, Deputy Board Clerk.

Gina Booe, Board President, called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m.

The following official action was taken in the course of the regular session of the Governing Board. Tonya Bell made a motion to approve the amended agenda to include a presentation by Malinda Williams. Darlene Sanders seconded. Motion carried.

Emily McCambridge and Kerri Stevens made a presentation on Child Find. Jeff Price and Sherry Dunlay made a presentation on Job Olympics.

Tonya Bell made a motion to approve the consent agenda to include the following.

October 8, 2014 Board Meeting Minutes October, 2014 Accounts Payable: $428,581.60 October, 2014 Payroll: $738,207.51 October, 2014 Treasurer’s Report October, 2014 Special Needs Vocational Report October, 2014 Special Needs Vocational Contracts Approval of Personnel Report

Don Barcus seconded. Motion carried.

Indicator #11 Letters File Review Verifications Superintendent’s Meeting

Julie will meet with the Superintendents Friday, Nov. 14, 2014. KASB Trainings Nov. 3, 2014 Good Boardmanship & Qualities of a good Superintendent (Brian Jordan) @ Independence High School. Discussion of Brian’s presentation – What are the strengths of our board December 1, 2014 – College & Career Ready Standards (Mark Tallman) @ Caney Valley High School February 2, 2015 – Safety & Security/Social Media (Lori Church) @ Fredonia High School Attendance at Local BOE Meetings November – Independence ESI Targeted Technical Assistant – USD #446/Jefferson Elementary.

Administrator Professional Development Plans

Tonya Bell made a motion to approve the resignation of Kevin Shepard with much regret and thanks to Kevin for making Tri-County the best interlocal in the state. Bill Freeman seconded. Motion carried. Julie will post the assistant director’s position internally asking for letter of interest to see how much interest is generated. This will then be discussed at the Dec. Board meeting to see if they want to open it up to others.

The Board President Gina Booe, along with Board members Tonya Bell and Bill Freeman will serve on the interview panel as well as a superintendent.

Bill Freeman added some information about anti-bullying going on in Wilson County.

Gina Booe, Board President, declared the November Board meeting adjourned at 8:34 p.m.
