Meeting Minutes CES School Governance Council August 31, 2015

Our Mission: A Tradition... In preparing students for the challenges of progress and change through development of the skills necessary to become lifelong learners in order that they may live successful and productive lives.

Members Present: Ken MacKenzie, Becky Bryant, Heather Jordan, Charissa Pritchett, Leslie Simmons, Shannon Vogelsang, Leigh Anne Conduff, Brandi Gainor, Anthony Suber, and David Caswell

Members Absent: Barbara Terry

Guests: Kathy White

I. The Meeting was called to order at 4:00 pm by Leigh Anne Conduff.

II. Mr. MacKenzie introduced the 2015-2016 School Governance Council. Our newest member is assistant principal Becky Bryant who will serve as a non-voting member of the council.

III. The SGC approved the proposed list of meeting dates and times for the 2015-2016 school year.

IV. The council received a copy of the By-laws of the Cartersville Elementary School Governance Council. The council discussed making changes to the By-laws at a later date when more time would be allowed.

V. The SGC Officers for the 2015-2016 school year were elected: -Chairperson: Leigh Anne Conduff was nominated for Chairperson, and the nomination was seconded. All council members were in favor of the nomination making Leigh Anne Conduff the Chairperson. -Vice-Chairperson: Charissa Pritchett was nominated for Vice Chairperson, and the nomination was seconded. All council members were in favor of the nomination making Charissa Pritchett the Vice Chairperson. -Secretary: Shannon Vogelsang was nominated for Secretary, and the nomination was seconded. All council members were in favor of the nomination making Shannon Vogelsang the new secretary.

VI. Mr. MacKenzie announced the new staff for the 2015-2016 school year.

VII. Kathy White spoke to the council regarding the School-Parent Compact, and the Family, School, & Community Engagement Conference.  The council determined that book fairs and grandparent month are ways that CES works to foster positive relationships between parents and schools.  Lastly, the council discussed revisions for the Parent Involvement Plan. VIII. The council discussed sending out a survey to the parents to find out the reasons they were in favor or not in favor of the dress code. David Caswell stated that he would create a few questions that could be sent out via Survey Monkey.

IX. There were no items for the open portion of the meeting, so the meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.

The next CES School Governance Council meeting will be held on Monday, September 28, at 4:00 p.m. in the CES Media Center.
