Job Description

Post Title: Deputy Head of Stadium Safety and Security

Rate of Pay: Salary offered will be commensurate with relevant experience and the level of responsibility undertaken in the post. Benefits also include (subject to certain eligibility criteria) up to 25 days paid annual leave.

Accountable to: Head of Stadium Safety and Security

Purpose

Support the Head of Stadium Safety and Security in the delivery of the various elements of the Club’s Safety Procedures Manual and security responsibilities. To be responsible for all aspects of Event Safety and Security linked to the Old Trafford Stadium, Team operations and other property owned by Manchester United Limited.

Key Responsibilities

The key responsibilities of the post are:-

Stadium Safety

Pre-Event and Event Days 1. Assist and liaise with the Head of Stadium Safety and Security in relation to contingency plans to deal with incidents in the ground such as stopping or delaying the event, dealing with fire, dealing with crowd disturbances and action in the light of the failure of any detection, warning, lighting or communications system, or other safety equipment 2. Ensure that there is in place a clear systems of communications, both inside and outside the stadium for use by safety/security personnel 3. Liaise with outside bodies such as the Certifying Authority (TMBC) and emergency services etc. as and when necessary 4. Liaise with the police with regard to adequate policing and police facilities and to reach a clear understanding with the Police Commander as to the division of duties and responsibilities between them and the Club during any event 5. Ensure that safety/security/medical staff are appropriately trained and deployed. To coordinate and carry out emergency evacuation procedures and other duties as laid down in the Emergency Safety Manual 6. Represent MUFC Safety Management in the Stadium Control Room at required ‘specified’ and ‘special’ events 7. In association with the Facilities Manager, ensure pre-match inspections of the Stadium are completed and recorded 8. Carry out pre-match briefings and resource deployment and strategy reviews with the Director of Venue Operations, Club Secretary, Police, Heads of Steward Sections, Catering and Hospitality Sections and the Security Contractor. 9. Prepare and complete all necessary documentation, e.g. Match Day Briefing Notes, Deployment sheets, Intelligence reports and other match related documentation 10. Ensure that the requisite number of security staff are strategically and tactically evaluated and deployed to carry out any security requirements associated with the event

Post Events 11. Debrief with Director of Venue Operations, Head of Stadium Safety and Security, Club Secretary, Police, other emergency services, Security Contractor and senior stewarding personnel as necessary 12. Evaluate and collate MUFC incident reports and ensure immediate or remedial action, as required, is taken 13. Prepare a written Post Match report and circulate to relevant management 14. In liaison with the Head of Stadium Safety and Security, undertake as required any post match investigations resulting from complaints received from customers or staff; actioning resolutions, monitoring processes or discipline as appropriate 15. Responsible for all post match ‘arrest, ejection and refusals’ ticket facility communications, sanctions and appeals in conjunction with Head of Stadium Safety and Security

Other duties 16. In liaison with the Head of Stadium Safety and Security, prepare the MUFC Annual Post Season Safety Report for presentation to the Certifying Authority (TMBC) 17. Be responsible for the operation, retention and storage of CCTV tapes in accordance with current policies and legislation 18. To attend, and chair if necessary, all internal and external MUFC safety/security related meetings 19. Liaise as required with the Premier League, the SGSA, the Football Safety Officer’s Association, the Football Association and other Football Clubs and facilitate associated meetings where necessary 20. Be responsible on match and non-match days for the staffing and deployments associated with the Stadium Car Park section. This is to include their operational delivery and effectiveness 21. Facilitate any evaluations, trials, reporting processes and implementation relating to any new projects or initiatives as required 22. To deputise for the Head of Stadium Safety and Security as required 23. To prepare and circulate a report following each domestic away game on the behavior of Manchester United Supporters

Security General 1. Assist and liaise with the Head of Stadium Safety and Security in all security matters associated with activities surrounding Old Trafford, AON Training Centre and other miscellaneous MUFC assets and properties 2. Assist and liaise with the Head of Stadium Safety and Security in all security matters associated with Player’s homes and travel arrangements as required 3. Assist and liaise with the Head of Stadium Safety and Security in all security associated with home and travel arrangements as required, associated with senior board members 4. Management, control and coordination of all match day and non- match day staffing and procedural accreditation systems

5. In association with the Head of Stadium Safety and Security, liaise with Club Secretary and undertake Team security duties associated with European away fixtures as required. This would include responsibilities involving pre match planning recce visits, ticket collection point logistics and match day safety and security duties and responsibilities associated with UEFA and the fixture 6. Act as point of contact for any matters relating to the Greater Manchester Police and any associated internal or external investigations relating to Club properties or staff 7. Ensure the Security Contractor undertakes its responsibilities in an efficient and effective manner

Experience The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

 Experience in safety regulation  Experience in regular liaison with Safety Regulatory bodies  Knowledge of Security arrangements and strategies  Experience in liaison with diverse range of UK Government Dept's & Agencies  Ability to compile detailed reports  Ability to compile contingency plans  Ability to undertake and compile risk assessments  Knowledge and experience of systems in relation to evidential video recording  Experience in relation to communication systems  Compliance with equal opportunities and diversity systems  Knowledge and experience of current legislation relating to Sporting Events  A commitment to driving continuous improvement in their working environment  Be computer literate, familiar with Microsoft office or similar packages and bespoke software systems  Strong communication and negotiation skills  Standards and quality driven  Ability to work in a multi task, highly pressurised environment  The ability to make sound decisions in a timely manner  A practical approach to problem solving  Organised and methodical  Sound personal qualities such as communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment, self-motivation, enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure  A strong customer service ethos and empathy with football supporters

Security / Stock Control Ensure compliance with all of the Company’s security, stock control, loss prevention and key holder procedures.

Hours of Work The employee is required to work a standard 35 hours per week however additional hours may be required including matchdays according to the operational requirements of the department or demands of the business.
