Spoils system: Rewarding political supporters with government jobs.

Tariff: Tax on imported goods. Tariff of Abomination 1828: Congress placed an extremely high tax on imported goods. Hoping to keep the internal economy growing by keeping people from buying cheaper foreign product. The Northern States favored these taxes because their economy was built on industry and manufacturing; they could support and produce the goods that we would have imported. Southerners feared that the foreign market would not buy cotton from them; thus, killing their economy.

Describe: The Corrupt Bargain: The Election of 1824, Henry Clay gives his support to John Quincy Adams, as presidency, in return for John Quincy to put Henry Clay as his Secretary of State.
