BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING SCHOOL DISTRICT OF OAKFIELD OAKFIELD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Monday—September 14, 2015
Meeting called to order by President Kottke at 5:30 p.m. Roll call o Members: P. Kottke, P. Dercks , J. Nyhuis, M. Murphy-Steinke, H. Kopf, A Patterson Absent: T. Marcoe, o Staff: S. Green, B. Laning Pledge of Allegiance Mr. Nyhuis, seconded by Mrs. Patterson, moved to approve the July 20, July 30 and August 17, 2015 school board minutes. Financial report is filed with the clerk. Mr. Dercks, seconded by Mrs. Kopf, moved to approve the warrants through September 14, 2015 as presented. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Public Input – None Mr. McCarty, High School History Teacher, shared with the Board an overnight field trip with eight students to the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition on September 19, 2015. He has done this in the past and the students will be able to meet most of the candidates including Trump and Huckabee, who will be there for the forum. Mrs. Patterson, seconded by Mrs. Kopf, moved to approve the trip to the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition as presented. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Mrs. Kottke, seconded by Mrs. Murphy-Steinke, moved to approve the donation of a welder to our tech ed department with a value of $5,000 from Moraine Park Technical College. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Mrs. Kopf, seconded by Mr. Dercks, moved to approve a donation of $500 from the Rotary Club to the football team to put towards their new helmets. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Mr. Mock retracted who the donation was received from. Mrs. Kottke, seconded by Mrs. Patterson, amended the motion to accept the $500 donation from the Kiwanis to the football team to put towards their new helmets as presented. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Administrator Green shared with the 2015-16 Food Service Contract with the board approved lunch price increases as part of this contract. Mr. Dercks, seconded by Mrs. Kottke, moved to approve the 2015-16 Food Service Contract with Taher as presented. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Administrator Green shared the 2015-16 Parent Transportation Contracts. We are obligated to pay for district students that meet the criteria to attend a private school outside our district. Mrs. Kottke, seconded by Mrs. Patterson, moved to accept the 2015-16 Parent Transportation Contracts as required. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Mrs. Kottke, seconded by Mr. Dercks, moved to accept the resignation of Mandy Wilson as presented. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Mrs. Patterson, seconded by Mr. Nyhuis, moved to accept Heather Thone as our MS Language Arts teacher and Barbara Ridd as our Chemistry/ Science teacher as presented. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Mrs. Murphy-Steinke, seconded by Mrs. Kopf, moved to hire Kaitlyn Primeau as our new before and after school childcare employee. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Mrs. Kottke, seconded by Mrs. Patterson, moved to approve Eric Schreiner as the seventh grade girls basketball coach and Robert Wonser as the varsity girls basketball coach. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Principal Doyle and Principal Klassy reviewed with the Board the 2015-16 Co-Curricular Positions along with these added positions. At the Elementary School they added a yearbook position and at the Middle School/High School they added an Art Club and a Technology Integration Coach. Mr. Dercks, seconded by Mrs. Kopf, moved to accept the 2015-16 Co-Curricular Positions as presented. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Administrator Green and Principal Doyle shared the different community accounts as part of Fund 80 including the childcare, Oakfield Difference and the fitness center. Board discussion took place on the finances with each of these accounts. Administrator Green and the Board discussed the ideas of making changes in how the district handles snow removal. This will be reviewed in the future after they look at the current district equipment being used for snow removal and the financial impact with or without changes. Administrator Green reviewed with the Board the list of facility and maintenance projects that were created from administration for the 2015-16 school year. Board discussion took place and advised administration to prioritize their list and to go ahead and get the three bids on the projects that are important to be addressed now. Mrs. Kottke, seconded by Mrs. Patterson, moved to approve up to $20,000 for additional building security with GAPPA. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent. Administrator Green reviewed with the Board the first reading of Board Policies # 2370 – Educational Options, #2605 – Program Accountability and Evaluations, #5113.01 – Course Options , #5460 – Graduation Requirements, #9270 – Home Based Private or Tribal Schooling. At the next meeting, September 28, 2015 the Board will have their pictures taken at 5:30 with Quick & Smart. Administrator Green shared with the Board the current census information, the Badger test will be placed with the Wisconsin Forward test, there will not be a school report card, and we had a smooth start to the school year and she commended the administrative team for a great job and for their hard work. Principal Doyle shared events going on at the elementary school including MAPS testing has started, school t-shirts will be ordered again and how busy her staff was getting ready for another school year and putting in a lot of extra hours. Principal Klassy shared events going on at the MS/HS including MAPS testing, they had a seventh and eighth grade parent orientation for the first year and it was successful, homecoming events will start on Sunday, six students will be picked to be on the PBIS team, and appreciation to Amanda Bates, MS/HS Art Teacher, on the outdoor school sign by the bell she repainted. Mr. Mock, Dean of Students/Athletic Director, distributed the 2015 fall athletic game schedule. Next School Board Meeting will be Monday, September 28, 2015 at 5:30 p.m., Oakfield Elementary School. Mrs. Kottke, seconded by Mrs. Patterson, moved to adjourn at 8:36 p.m. Motion carried: 6 ayes, 0 noes, 1 absent.
