Whitermore Writer’s Craft Word Journal In learning about the importance of words, we have explored the significance of word choice. For this project, you will address the following question: what is your relationship with language and words? This project asks each student to consider his or her personal relationship with words. Requirements: Create a journal of words from a number of different categories listed below. Please note that your decision reflects the effort element of your grade.
● A word that that describes your most awkward moment of middle school
● A word that describes a meal you love in one word
● A word that describes your favorite teacher in one word
● Write a word that has gotten you into trouble
● A word your parent/guardian called you as a younger child
● A word that describes a frightening or intimidating experience
● A word that describes the worst smell – one that makes you gag
● A word that describes something you collect in one word
● A word that describes your first day of high school in one word
● A word that describes the most important relationship in your life in one word (not a name)
● A word that describes a moment of peace and tranquility in your life in one word (NOT PEACE or TRANQUILITY)
● A word that describes that reminds you of the first time you heard your favorite song
● What word describes how you dance?
● A word to represent something in your past that you would like to forget
● A word that makes you laugh
● A word that makes you angry
● A word that makes you ponder
● A shared word among friends, one that has a special meaning for both of you – it can be a made up word Expectations: You will be creative and interesting in your portrayal of the project in the ways listed below.
● Your book of words should have a creative cover that is visually appealing.
● It should have at least two visuals that deal with the power of words.
● Each section should be labeled according to the categories above.
● Any sources consulted should be cited.
● Your book of words should reflect your personality, creativity, and interests. Be creative. It should be an introduction to yourself that is thoughtful, reflective, and polished.
● Feel free to make up additional categories in order to reflect your personality more effectively
Grading is based on: neatness, effort, following instructions, conventions and timeliness
