J.B. “Red” Downs

J.B. “Red” Downs, 85, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2013 in Wichita Falls. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mickey Miller, Pastor, Mankins Baptist Church, officiating. Graveside Services will follow at the Holliday Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park.

Red was born August 4, 1928 in Holliday, Texas to Jack and Beulah (Parvin) Downs. He married Edith Margetta Woods on December 17, 1949 in Henrietta, Texas. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this December. Red worked for 46 years in the oilfield for G.E. Kadane & Sons Oil Company. He served his country in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed spending his time farming and ranching. He loved his grandkids and great grandkids and attended all of their sports activities and FFA events. He served as President for the Valley View 4-H Horse Club. He was loved and known as a father and grandfather figure to many people.

Red is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy and Pat Downs; two sisters, Mattie Riggins and Frances Klein.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Edith Downs of Kamay, Texas; two children, Jackie Downs and wife, LaRonda of Kamay, and daughter, Yvonne “Sis” Russell and husband, Dale of Iowa Park; three grandchildren, Rusty Downs and wife, Tassie; Lacy Downs; and Amanda Moore and husband, Marc; two great grandchildren; one great grandchild arriving in May; two brothers, Loy Downs of New Castle, Wyoming and Michael Downs of Wichita Falls; one sister, Mada Riggins of Archer City, Texas; and many friends and family.
