Buses will run in the morning but NOT in the afternoon for St. Joseph’s School  April 20th – SD54 NID day- NOT US- We are in session and NO buses will run morning or after school  April 22nd – ‘Test Drive a New Buick Schools Challenge’ Fundraiser. 10 am -4 pm Walnut Park. TUTION COMMITMENT FORM FROM SCHOOL COUNCIL ALL FAMILIES TO FILL IN THE FORM Hello, parents/guardians. The Tuition Commitment form sent home today with the Tuesday Note is an ESSENTIAL and MANDATORY form for next year’s planning and data update. Each family is required to fill out the form. It is to be returned by Tuesday, April 18th. Please call the school office if you have any questions. Thank you. School Council *If your family is NOT returning to St. Joseph’s next September, please write it across the form.

SPRING BOOK FAIR Our next Book Fair is scheduled for Thursday, April 20th. The class schedule will be in the next note.

CARNIVAL TIME!!! Once again it’s carnival time!! Mark your calendar for April 28th. The carnival is a really good family evening and also a great school fundraiser! Our grade six and seven classes will be using the profits for their year-end field trips. Thank you for supporting this school event! Games, food, and fun

Gr. 1 – will be going to gymnastics on Monday, April 24th, May 1st and May 8th from 10:45-11:45. AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM RE-REGISTRATION: Families with children currently enrolled in the After School Program have the opportunity to re-register beginning May 1st. Registrations will be on a first-come, first-served basis. If you do not re-register we will assume that you are not returning to the program. Please drop your registration in the SCHOOL OFFICE. On June 1st registration will open to the general public.

Graduating student from SSS in 2017? St. Joseph’s Council of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada is pleased to once again offer a bursary of $500.00 to a student, who in the past attended St. Joseph’s School, and is graduating from Smithers Secondary School in June 2017. Contact the office for criteria. *Deadline for application is May 1st *

PSG BURSARY St. Joseph’s Parent Group is also pleased to offer a bursary of $500 to any graduating student who attended St. Joseph’s School for at least four years. Contact SSS for further details, including criteria and application deadline.

USED KIDS’ CLOTHING AND TOY SALE A big thank you to Erin and Phil Brienesse for taking on this fundraiser for the school. The sale raised $495.70 for the school.

POSTER CONTEST FOR ABORIGINAL YOUTH ForEd BC sponsors an annual poster contest for aboriginal youth. The theme this year is ‘Traditional Knowledge and Medicine.’ The deadline is May 15th. For more information, please email [email protected] or fax 604- 737-8598

APEGBC ANNUAL POPSICLE BRIDGE BUILDING COMPETITION-May 6 th in Kitimat Last year, a grade 5 student entered and won in this annual competition. Her prize was $400 for her classroom. The contest is open to Grade 4 to 12 students around the province. Registration deadline is April 21st. This is not a school sponsored event, but we have the information for the student/parent to review – or one may contact [email protected]. The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC, Northern Branch provide materials and a detailed information package.

SCHOOL YARD MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEER NEEDED We are looking for individuals who would be willing to take care of the weed eating around our fence and playground equipment. Volunteers from the parish take care of the lawn, but we need someone to do the weed eating. Machines can be provided. If interested, please call the office: 847-9414.

TRADE FAIR- PSG FUNDRAISER The St. Joseph’s PSG is having a Pizza and Cotton Candy booth at the Trade Show on Friday and Saturday, May 5th and 6th. Two-hour shifts need to be covered from 3 to 9 pm Friday and 10am to 6pm Saturday. If you are able to help with this there is a sign –up sheet in the foyer. It is fun to hang out in the booth and chat with people. Two hours goes by very quickly 

SCIENCE FAIR- congratulations! We had two students enter in the District Science Fair last weekend. Rowan Coupe won a Bronze Medal and Tess Wellington won a Silver Medal. Congratulations to you both for a job well done 

St. JOSEPH’S CHURCH SERVICES OF HOLY WEEK Holy Thursday – 7:30 pm Good Friday – 3:00 pm Easter Vigil – 8:00 pm Easter Sunday – 9:00 am “He is Risen!” SCHOOL FUNDRAISERS… Buick Test Drive Elementary School Fundraiser- April 22, from 10-4 Location: Walnut Park Sponsored by Coast Mountain GM Battle of the Schools – St. Joseph’s School, Walnut Park, and Muheim. Each school will be able to take advantage of this fun fundraising opportunity and raise some serious money. Parents can test drive a new Buick vehicle, and there are lots of fun things for children to do too. BBQ, concession, games, face painting etc. Come raise some $$ and have some family fun. A test drive can take as little as 5 minutes and our school will have raised $20 with your help! That easy! This was a successful fundraiser last spring for the SSS Athletic Program. THIRTY-ONE GIFTS - PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISER "Thirty-One Gifts carries products for storage, organization, and home decor, as well as jewelry and purses. The fundraiser runs until April 30, and commission from the party sales will go towards the St Joseph's playground fund. Go to mythirtyone.ca/Christinascarryalls and click 'My Parties'. Under 'St. Joseph's Playground Fundraiser' click 'Shop Now'. Some samples are in the office if you'd like to take a look. Lastly, to save $6.50 on shipping, select 'ship to consultant' at the checkout and Christina will deliver to your door. Questions? Call/text Christina at 604-996-9064" SPRING FUNDRAISER-beautiful, healthy flowers, strawberries, and herbs Each family will receive a plant order form this week. Cheques are to be made out to St. Joseph’s School. All orders must be in by April 26th so we can have our plants here by May 10th. The plants and baskets make a wonderful Mother’s Day gift! If you do not wish to participate in this fundraiser, please return your form to the office. All funds raised will go to student-used equipment and activities. The blooms, herbs, strawberries are arriving on Wednesday, May 10th and you are responsible to pick up your whole order and deliver to the people on your list. MCDONALDS DONATION AND LUNCH FUNDRAISER All day Thursday, April 27th, McDonalds is donating 15% of all sales to St. Joseph’s School. How nice! In support of this fundraiser, the staff and students of St. Joe’s are invited to EAT. The PSG has organized a McDonalds “hot lunch” for this day. Students may order from a limited menu the week before. PSG members will deliver McDonalds orders to classes that Thursday, April 27th When ordering please be sure to have the exact amount of money for your purchase. $5.00 items each: BigMac, McChicken, Quarter Cheese, 6 McNuggets. $2.00 items each: Hamburger, Cheeseburger, small apple juice, small orange juice, small white milk, small chocolate milk ORDER FORMS WILL BE SENT HOME ON TUESDAY, APRIL 18TH AND ALL ORDERS MUST BE RETURNED BY THURSDAY, APRIL 20TH. WE WILL NOT TAKE ANY LATE ORDERS, NO EXCEPTIONS!! COMMUNITY EVENTS What’s Happening at the BV Regional Pool and Recreation Centre. -Intro to Climbing: Top rope belay course. Become a certified belayer. Learn knots, techniques, and communication on Thursday, April 13th 6:30-9:00pm.
