MEGA CITY PROBLEMS

a) Differentiate between urbanization factors in developed and developing countries. b) Examine and evaluate problems and solutions related to urban sprawl.

A megacity is usually defined as a recognized metropolitan area with a total population in excess of 10 million people. Some definitions also set a minimum level for population density (at least 2,000 persons/square km). The terms megapolis and megalopolis are sometimes used synonymously with megacity.

You and a partner  Geography (Site and Situation, Environment, map of city) are to examine a  Population, culture, religion, style of government mega-city  5 Highlights of the city according to the  Economy and Resources  Problems the city faces with urbanization(ie: Infrastructure following topics. and Social Services Issues, Transportation, Water, Power, (Note: No two groups can do the same megacity) Education, Waste Disposal, Health)  Solutions to Urban Problems  Bring in a dish authentic to the city’s culture.

You can either create a PowerPoint or create a scrapbook on your megacity.
