Summary of Experience:  Mr. Rizvi was educated in Pakistan in a mix of Urdu and English medium schools and colleges. He served as an Officer in the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) for over 20 years. After retirement, was appointed as a Principal of one of the high schools managed by the PAF. Also taught English and Urdu languages to the students of secondary school for over six years. Since most of his family was living in the US, he immigrated to the U.S. in 2001 on a family-sponsored Visa. Since his arrival, he has worked as a translator/interpreter, for the U.S. Department of State (DOS), Anti Terrorism Assistance Program (ATAP) and Urdu instructor for US Army. Also worked on Combat Interpreter/Translator Curriculum Development Support Project – Urdu – for American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Mr. Rizvi has a degree in War Studies from the University of Karachi, in Pakistan. He has studied/taught in a number of countries including USA, France, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/EMPLOYMENT HISTORY:

Translator/Transcriber

Aug. 2002 – present  Prepared a set of video learning objects (VLOs). These VLOs will provide language enhancement and maintenance at the 2 – 2+ ILR proficiency level and are modeled after the VLOs currently displayed on the SCOLA website.  Worked on Combat Interpreter/Translator Curriculum Development Support Project – Urdu for American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.  Last year alone translated Training Manuals for Language Services, US Dept. of State containing nearly over 120,000 words. This year once again translated Training Manuals containing about 150,000 words.  Work as English/Urdu translator for US Dept. Of State, ATAP, and numerous translation agencies, universities, law firms, and other organizations.  Performed hundreds of hours of transcription work of telephonic conversation made by inmates from federal prisons and corrections institutes from Urdu, Panjabi, and Hindi into English.  Transcription work includes audio transcription for court cases, video transcription of a terrorist who was interviewed by a journalist and series of interviews of earthquake victims in Pakistan conducted over a number of years.  Regularly translate articles for, “Khabar South Asia,” and “Central Asia on Line” websites.  Translated articles for the US ARMY CENTCOM website.  Translated articles for the US ARMY PACOM website.  Translated numerous articles from Urdu newspapers for Penn State University.  Well versed in both Urdu and English languages.  Have been working for U.S. Department of State as Simultaneous/Seminar Interpreter, Consecutive Interpreter, Administrative Escort, and Examiner since 2002.  Have done numerous interpreting assignments with the United States International Visitors Program, Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program, US AID program for Pakistan and Southern Methodist University Dallas, Texas.  Conducted conference interpreting in Kuwait for Olympic Council of Asia, and for PepsiCo, AMWAY, Herbalife 2013 Summit Paris (Herbalife International), and many others.  Conduct medical interpreting, depositions, court interpreting, over the phone interpreting/conferencing and editing for many companies, churches, and civil right organizations.

 Urdu Instructor, Utah Army National Guard. 9/2006 – 9/2007 Taught Urdu language to Utah Army National Guard to DLPT level 2+ at their campus at Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah.  Examiner, Language Services US Dept. of State. 6/2005 - Present Evaluate oral tests given by the candidates who apply for the interpreter’s job in Urdu language.  Principal/teacher, Shaheen Inter-College, PAF. 6/1995-3/2001 Taking into consideration the aptitude, experience, and qualifications gained by undergoing various courses while serving the PAF, was appointed as PRINCIPAL of one of Inter Colleges (equivalent to High School in USA) managed by the Pakistan Air Force after the retirement. In addition to duties as Principal also took regular classes and taught English and Mathematics to the senior students.  Training. 6/1969-6/1990 Was entrusted with the responsibility to look after the training of personnel in many units of Pakistan Air Force. The responsibilities included teaching and making training schedule and lesson plans, arranging classes and keeping track of progress of all the individuals and making sure that all the individuals were fully trained and combat ready.
