Graduate Research Assistantship in Golf Course Water Quality Monitoring at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia

We are currently seeking a student who is interested in pursuing a graduate degree that is centered on monitoring the quality of water coming into and going out of Virginia golf courses, with an emphasis on those situated within the Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Working with course managers to implement Best Management Practices (BMPs) for protection of water quality will also be a primary emphasis. The position would require extensive travel within Virginia. M.S. student preferred, Ph.D. student will be considered. This GRA is primarily funded by three organizations: the Environmental Institute for Golf, the VA Golf Course Superintendents Association, and the VA Turfgrass Foundation. The student will be required to fulfill all the requirements for a graduate degree within the Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences (CSES) Department of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Virginia Tech, but will be co-advised by the Director of the VA Water Resources Research Center (VWRRC) in the College of Natural Resources and Environment. An undergraduate background in the sciences of turfgrass, soils, and the environment is preferred. The candidate will begin in the Fall 2012 semester, but funding may be available to start as early as June. The position comes with a monthly stipend that begins at approximately $1600/month + tuition.
