Job Description: Director of Communications

JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS The Director of Communications is an elected and voting board position who shall be accountable for the administration and publication of the Chapter’s newsletter, the OPTIMIZER. In addition, the Director of Communications should be familiar with copyright laws and maintain files of written permissions granted for reprints.

MAIN DUTIES:

1. Coordinate and facilitate the transition when transition of office occurs. 2. Present a newsletter strategy at transitional meeting 3. Attend all BOD, PDM, and special events. 4. Issue by August 1, a deadline schedule of all Chapter publications. 5. Publish nine newsletters yearly. 6. Create, adhere to, and monitor financial performance against an Operating Communications budget, to be approved at the AUGUST BOD meeting. 7. Determine resource requirements and provide input to chapter budget and strategic planning processes 8. Communicate closely with each Director and chairperson, regarding information regarding their activities for publication in the Optimizer, and share Chapter Programs & activity information with other area APICS Chapters and/or professional groups; (e.g. COSE, NAPM, ASQC, IIE, etc. to integrate efforts. 9. Manage a Communications Committee (Recruit, Develop Mentoring, Measure of Performance). 10. Participate in member renewal and/ or retention surveys as supplied by the Director of Marketing 11. Each board member shall report on actual expenses versus the budget at each monthly board meeting. 12. Update and maintain the Director of Communications “Detailed Position Guide” and forms, contracts, etc. related the Chapter and on file with the chapter Secretary. Technical Requirements:

1. E-mail, internet and phone access., scanner, digital camera port 2. Have read and fully understand the job description, APICS Cleveland Chapter by-laws, and rules set forth by the National Organization Required Skill:

1. Leadership, motivation, delegation, teambuilding, communication, organization, project planning, negotiation. 2. Typing and computer skills: word processing, spreadsheets, Internet skills, PageMaker, Photoshop, Illustrator, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Word, Access, Front Page 3. Familiarity with APICS body of language. 4. Writing skills (grammar, spelling, proofreading). 5. Public speaking and presentation skills.

Minimum Time Requirements:

1. BOD meetings: 1 per month, 2 hour per meeting 2. Transition meeting: 1 per year 3. APICS sponsored Training Meetings: 1 per year 4. Professional Development Meetings: 1 per month, 8 per year 5. 7-15 hours additional per month, depending on the level of Chapter activity.
