Students with an excused absent are allowed 1 day per absent day to make up assignments. It is the responsibility of the student to ask for missed assignments. When there are no classroom assignments students are given daily points for participating on the shop floor. A student who has missed a day in the shop is still required to make up missed daily points. Students can make those points up with a shop related article summary, vocabulary definitions, or complete a shop related service project. If a student’s situation results in an extended excused absents please make prior arrangements for assignments. Unexcused absences cannot be made up. TARDY POLICY A student that is not in the classroom when the bell sounds will be marked tardy. EXPECTATIONS of STUDENTS  Respect other student’s right to learn  Respect the teacher’s right to teach  Personal conduct to give honor to yourself SHOP LOCKERS Shop lockers and combination locks will be assigned to two students each locker. SAFETY 1 Safety is the utmost importance and a primary focus within the shop. Students will learn shop safety rules and procedures, and will need to complete a safety test with 100% accuracy. If a student is seen to violate a safety rule a warning will be given for the first offence. A second offence will result in a review of shop safety procedures and the student will need to retake the safety test . A Student who continues to violate safety rules will be referred to administration for removal from the course. In a shop setting one student’s actions may not just endanger oneself but also those in the near vicinity. To help create an atmosphere of safety within the shop students are required to help keep the shop orderly and clean. Tools put away, machines un-plugged and cleaned off, dirty rags put in the dumpster, floors swept, and stains and varnishes properly sealed.

SAFETY GLASSES Safety glasses are not an option and will be worn at all times. Failure to do so will result in immediate disciplinary action. Students that are assigned a pair of safety glasses to use for the semester are expected to return them at the end of the course in good condition. If excessive damage occurs the student will be charged for the glasses. a) Safety Glass Supply Options Students have three supply options concerning safety glasses: 1) Students can check out a pair of glasses from the shop and check them back in at the end of the course, at no cost. If the glasses are damaged or scratched beyond safe use the student will be assessed a $3.00 fee. If the glasses are not turned back in, the student will be charged a $3.00 fee. 2) Students can buy a pair of glasses from the shop for $3.00 and then keep the glasses 3) Students can bring in a pair of their own certified safety glasses from home (clear or light tint lenses, no dark tint lenses because we are always in doors) b) Students with Prescription Glasses 1) Regular eyeglasses do not meet required safety standards and cannot be worn in the shop. Safety glasses in our shop will fit over most regular prescription glasses. Another option is to purchase prescription safety glasses from the eye doctor. Generally these glasses are less expensive than regular prescription glasses and are stamped on the side stem as certified safety glasses. Grading Procedure Marking period make up: classroom objectives, Assignments, and quizzes and tests  Classroom Objectives: The ability to be safe on the shop floor, participate in hands on training activities, degree of focus on the project, and participating with the cleanup of the shop.

Grading Scale 90% - 100% = A 80% - 89% = B 70% - 79% = C 60% - 69% = D 59% - 0% = E Electronic Devices Electronic devices are not needed in this course or allowed. It is best practice to turn any electronic device off and put it away. If an electronic device is visible a warning will be given. A second offence will result in the collection of the device and disciplinary action taken. Absolutely no photography, due to the digital age we live with today. A photograph may result in bullying by posting on social media sites, violating a student’s right to privacy. Parents should direct all calls and texting to the main office and not to directly to the student in the classroom. Safety is an issue as your child may be using a power tool or a machine.
