Conducted research and social survey on “Development and the problems of Nomadism and Pastoralism in the Indian arid zone”, with special emphasis on Banni Grazingland of Gujarat.

ii) Sustainable Development of Rural Ecosystem Division, G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, Almora (1991 to 1998)

Conducted research on "Development Dilemma: National Context and Rural Scenario in the Himalaya", to evaluate the level of development in the rural Himalayan village, vis-à-vis the development at regional and national level.

Conducted research on "Development and the changing pattern of resource use in the high altitude societies” with special reference to transhumant pastoralists of Central Himalaya. The study has come out with the various adaptive and survival techniques of these highlanders, and the impact of development on their economic, social and cultural institutions.

A Shastri Indo Canadian Institute – Canadian International Development Agency sponsored project titled "An Empirical Study of Development of Tribal Communities from Eco-cultural Perspectives : A Study in the Central Himalayan Region of India", aimed on the linkages between ecology, economy and culture and inter links of these on development interventions. A project titled “An assessment of agricultural production and strategy for sustainable development of bioresources in the Hawalbagh block of Almora”, aimed to assess the carrying capacity and potential of bioresources.

A study on “Impact of development on the forests, agriculture and the pastoral communities of Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh”. iii) Indigenous Knowledge Systems Division, G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, Almora (1999 - 2006) as Scientist-In-Charge of the Division.

Intensive research on “Documentation of indigenous knowledge systems of the high altitude communities of Indian the Himalaya and explore possibilities for value addition”.

Compilation of “Social Infrastructure Database for the Indian Himalayan Region” for International Center for Integrated Mountain Development, Kathmandu (Nepal).
