Leader- A leader is someone who has others following them. If you think you are leading and no one is following you are mistaken. You are not really leading-you are just taking a walk!

Young Life Leader- A person who has intentionally entered another person’s life, and has 3 to 5 people that will follow and go anywhere with them.If you don’t have 3 people who will go with you, you are not having impact; you simply have your name on the leader list, enjoy the fellowship and the good food brought by the committee.

Those who want to lead, but who are only posing, are often a frustration to their team and carry around the disappointment of not really engaging into the real work of a leader. They hear the stories of others having impact, but can’t imagine having stories of their own.If you find yourself with your name on the list but are only taking a walk, there are most likely a few possible reasons why. Until we explore the why we will most likely not move forward into real leadership, which can be translated as “influence”.

Top 5 reason not to engage in relationships with kids(contact work)

1) Fear

2) Not Sure what to do or how to do it .

3) Not bought in to why we pursue relationships as the foundation of our ministry

4) Time-your schedule is hectic and you are having trouble balancing all the things on your plate

5) Fatigue- we are doing so much in our lives that we can end up being a mile wide and a half inch deep in our relationships

The danger is that we can becomeeither paralyzed by inaction having no real successful experiences with kids to draw on and to encourage us, or we can find ourselves working hard at the form of being a leader while still being really frustrated that we are not making an impact. Both are discouraging, lead to leader burnout and eventually leaders quitting..
