About the Training Guide

The McKesson Practice Choice Training guide is designed to identify the resources available for training on Practice Choice. Where possible items within each section are arranged in the order that best practices dictate to consume these items.

In its electronic version, this document provides links to those resources that can be accessed on-line.

Please access the current version of this document on-line periodically as it will continue to be updated with additional and updated resources.

McKesson Practice Choice Training Videos

The McKesson Practice Choice Training Videos are a series of training modules that provide demonstrations and walkthroughs of specific features and functionality of the McKesson Practice Choice system. The videos are arranged in the recommended order for implementation and should be taken in sequential order the first time through.

Covers how to create procedures, rules, and alerts, and how to apply them to patients through the use of templates.

McKesson Practice Choice Admin – Note Management 7:15 Admin/Clinical  A walkthrough of the administrative function of viewing and editing Note templates. Covers how to add quick texts, pick lists, letter codes, smart codes, and insert codes to the note template. Note templates make documentation faster, clearer, and consistent.

Order types are required when creating orders. This training defines order types and demonstrates how to edit, delete, and add new order types. Covers order type configuration, adding procedures and, order assignment.

McKesson Practice Choice Admin – Quick Text Maintenance 4:02 Admin/Clinical  Covers creating, editing, and deleting Quick Text and Pick Lists for use in progress notes, nurse notes, and encounter notes. Covers inserting elements into Quick Text. Quick Text is used in notes to facilitate faster documentation.

McKesson Practice Choice Admin – Tagging Text to Elements for Deletion 16:00 Admin/Clinical  Covers creating Tags and links between quicktext and picklist elements and text/labels to allow text/labels to be deleted during the note Complete and Sign process.

McKesson Practice Choice Admin – Note Template Sharing 7:20 Admin/Clinical  Covers the process of sharing note templates between organizations. This training video details how to send note templates, receive note templates, and utilize shared templates by the receiving organization.

McKesson Practice Choice – Encounters Overview 2:38 Clinical  An overview of the encounters pane in a patient’s chart and demonstrates how to create an encounter that is not linked to an appointment. Encounters are automatically created when a patient is checked in.

McKesson Practice Choice – Multi-page Scanning in McKesson Practice Choice 13:20 Clinical/Scheduler/Billing (New for 1.05 – 09/29/20120  A detailed walkthrough of the Scanning item process. Covers scanning in Scheduling, Charting, and Accounting as well as the Document Library. Covers how to scan, editing, viewing scanned items in Practice Choice, exporting scans, and printing scans, as well as searching and filtering in the Document Library.

McKesson Practice Choice – Using the Override Supervising Provider Setting 1:50 Clinical (New for 1.04 – 08/30/2012)  Covers the Mid-Level provider use of the Override Supervising Provider setting. Details optimizing Mid-Level claim status and when this feature must be used to comply with Method II billing.

McKesson Practice Choice – Payment Screen Keyboard Navigation 7:04 Billing (New for 1.03 – 07/06/2012)  Covers using keyboard navigation shortcuts when entering payments into the payment input fields of the Claims and Unapplied tabs of the Payments screen. The Sales Certification Training series is a group of training three modules presented by Chris Wetzel, VAR Solutions Specialist designed to train a VAR in the McKesson Practice Choice sales process. This training is a pre-requisite to Sales Certification test.

McKesson Practice Choice – Sales Certification – Module 1: Introduction

 This video presents the Key Value Propositions, System Structure and Data and Where McKesson Practice Choice fits in the McKesson portfolio of practice management and electronic health record solutions. This training is approximately 29 minutes in length.

McKesson Practice Choice – Sales Certification – Module 2: Sales Demonstration Training

 This video presents how to effectively demonstrate McKesson Practice Choice effectively to a prospective customer. Specifically how to Prepare for the demonstration, Tips on presenting the system, and a sample demonstration. Additionally a preview of the Sales Certification test is presented. This training is approximately 1 hour and 8 minutes in length.

 This video presents the sales and implantation process for McKesson Practice choice. The Contracting tools and process are presented as well as the implementation process. As procedures and processes are fine tuned and tweaked, best practices are identified and developed within the McKesson Practice Choice community. When these procedures and processes are identified and codified the PPS Academy will share that knowledge through additional training modules.

Additionally supplementary documentation may be released to cover topics or issues that arise or provide clarification concerning McKesson Practice Choice. In this section the Academy provides reference and access to these materials as they are identified, developed, and released.

The McKesson Practice Choice Exercises Guide Workbook provides a series of pre-defined exercises that guide the user through the most common tasks performed using McKesson Practice Choice. The guide is segmented into four sections corresponding to the four working areas of McKesson Practice Choice, Scheduling, Charting, Accounting, and Administration. Each section has a series of exercises that build on one another. Where workflow is an important factor in the tasks the exercises follow workflow, otherwise the exercises progress based on complexity of the task.

The McKesson Practice Choice Exercises Guide Workbook is intended for use with the McKesson Practice Choice Sandbox / Demo Environment. End-user organizations will be provided access and login information for this site under separate cover. VARs should use the site provided to them as a demonstration site. For help in completing the tasks review the McKesson Practice Choice Training videos.

Practice Choice Certification Exam

The McKesson Practice Choice Certification Exam provides an assessment of the key learning points and functionality of the McKesson Practice Choice product. The exam is updated routinely to reflect the most recent product release. As a VAR the McKesson Practice Choice Certification Exam is one of the requirements. You must pass the exam with a score of 80% or higher.

To register for the VAR exam, send a request to take the exam with your name and VAR information to [email protected] .

End Users may take the end-user version of the certification exam as a guide and reference to their understanding of the McKesson Practice Choice system. The End User is not required to pass the exam.
