The DPL Group Hercules Plus User’s Manual

Extended Service, 2 Way Wireless ATM Communications

Advantages: No phone line delays or fees. Installation is Plug and Play and your ATM becomes instantly portable.

CAUTION / ATTENTION:

You must enter 5550120 in place of your Service Provider’s primary number in your ATM! If there is a secondary Host Number, set this to 5550120 as well. If any light does not turn on within two minutes, reconnect, tighten the antenna connection and power back up. You must activate the unit with The DPL Group prior to using.

1 Please read all of the instructions!

Equipment Supplied: 1 – Hercules Plus Unit, Model: ATM-500

1 – Power Adapter (under the Hercules Plus)

1 – Antenna with SMA plug

1 – Red Crossover Ethernet Cable for use with an IP ATM

You may require screws or suitable fasteners for securing the unit inside the ATM. Bringing a phone with you will aid in installation and tests.

Request activation 2 business days prior to using!

Options: 1. The Hercules Plus can watch your ATM constantly and alert security and you by Cell phone data message and / or email immediately on the following conditions: power disconnected, machine tilted / disturbed and door opened inputs 1 & 2. Contact The DPL Group about our Anti- Theft kit! 2. Our AC Disconnect option allows the Hercules to switch off the AC power to your ATM for 5 seconds remotely. This allows you to reboot your ATM from your computer through our secure web site. 3. A “Signal Strength Module” is available to allow the installer / ATM deployer to verify the cellular signal strength of a given location. 4. A wide input range AC Adapter is supplied for installations at the end of a long extension cord or when using the same circuit as coolers or other high power drawing equipment. 5. A ‘High Gain Antenna’ is also available. This antenna is much longer than the one supplied with the unit. Please note that in some installations the ‘high gain antenna’ actually gives a lower gain as placement close to metal and inside malls can greatly affect antenna characteristics. The included antenna works extremely well in most applications since it can be placed on metal and away from metal sides easier. 6. Antenna extensions in 20’ and 40’ lengths are also available.

Unit Activation: Contact your Representative or THE DPL GROUP at 800-561-8880 or use the ‘SIM Activation Form’ at www.dpl.ca. You may also email [email protected]. Indicate your Serial Number, Company Name, Company Phone Number and Financial Service Provider. If you wish to use the Extended Service (2 Way) Option or IP ATM with the Hercules Plus unit then you must indicate this and the machine type when requesting activation. (See the 2 Way section for details on setting up your unit.)

2 Preliminary Testing: Though always a good idea regardless, if your installation site is located far away then we strongly suggest that you connect the antenna and power cord and verify operation before driving a long way to a site and finding a possible problem. The most common problems are activation failures and failing to set up the unit with your transaction service provider. Performing the following steps helps to ensure your installation will go smoothly and only takes a few minutes. 1. Screw the antenna onto the antenna jack and lightly tighten antenna whip on to its base. (Refer to the next section if you have the “Signal Strength Module”.) 2. Plug the adapter into an AC Outlet (120VAC) and into the Power Jack. 3. The 3 LED’s will flash for a second and the POWER light must turn on. 4. Wait for up to 2 minutes for the SRVC light to turn on solid. (If the SRVC LED will not come on then either the antenna is not mounted in a good location, the whole ATM is not in a good service area or the Activation has not been processed.) 5. Wait for up to 10 seconds for the ATM light to turn on solid. (If the ATM LED will not come on, then contact your Representative or refer to the last page. The ATM LED indicates full connection has been verified to The DPL Group.) Optional for dial to Wireless configurations: a. Plug a POTS (Plain Old Telephone) set into the MODEM jack and go off-hook. b. Make sure you hear Dial Tone and then dial 555-0120 quickly or *555-0120 allows a slower entry. (Be sure to use the touch tone mode of the phone. If you do not hear Dial Tone then hang up the phone for 1 minute and retry. A high pitch tone must start in 1 second.) 6. Unplug the AC Power Cable. (Note that if the optional anti-theft harness is connected with the battery pack then the power lost alarm will be sent. Unplug the harness.)

Antenna Installation: Determine the best place for the magnetic mount antenna to be located. Attach it to a steel piece inside the plastic door or in the top so that the whip is vertical, up or down.

Antenna placement is critical for proper and best operation!

DO NOT put the antenna inside the safe. DO put the antenna as far away from the other electronics and metal as possible. DO route the wire so that it will not get pinched. DO NOT coil the antenna cable too tight. DO check the whip to make sure it is threaded on to its magnetic base snug – but do not break it! The Cellular Service value will be emailed to you on power-up if this feature is set up with The DPL Group.

3 Unit Installation: You must activate your unit if it has not been activated. The ATM and SRVC lights will not come on if it is not activated. - Determine the best place for the unit to be located. Typically it should be located on the bottom of the ATM machine (floor) that is inside the safe. DO NOT put the antenna in the safe. - Connect the Antenna wire to the Hercules Plus Antenna Jack by screwing it on hand tight. Ensure the whip on the antenna is not loose on its magnetic base. - Connect the Modular Cord that usually connects to the telephone line to the Hercules “MODEM” Jack. - Connect the 12VDC adapter to the unit’s POWER jack and plug it into a 120VAC AC power source. - Once all LED’s are on, the Hercules Plus is ready for transactions.

CAUTION: This unit requires 100 – 130VAC of power. Ensure that this requirement is met when installed using a long extension cord or heavily loaded circuits (‘fridge compressors, etc.) If power from a bad power source is used (generator) it is important to use a UPS in series for power conditioning to remove noise and power dips. If The DPL Group Anti-Theft option is also used, contact Tech Support for other options.

ATM AC-Disconnect Unit: These newer units support the use of The DPL Group’s AC-Disconnect unit. This allows the user to log onto The DPL Group’s secure web server and issue a wireless task that will disconnect the AC power from your ATM for 5 seconds. Simply connect the ATM’s power cord to The DPL Group AC-Disconnect unit and plug the inlet of the unit to the 120VAC power source. The control cable must be connected between the Hercules Plus interface connector (15 pin) and the 7 pin keyed connector on the AC-Disconnect unit.

IP ATM Configuration: (Use supplied “crossover type” cable for direct connection to ATM.) The provider IP address must be configured as 192.168.0.52, port 8000. The IP of the terminal needs to be 192.168.0.55. Enable persistent connections and TCP heart beats. For Full Service ATMs, contact Tech Support and indicate your make and model number.

Dial ATM Configuration: In the ATM set-up, configure the ATM to dial 555-0120 for transactions instead of the service provider phone number. Refer to the caution on the first page of this Manual.

- The preferred set-up for the transactions is 2400 baud, v.22bis but the Hercules Plus also supports 1200 baud v.22. - The ATM should be set to “pre-dial” for communications. This will speed up transaction processing. - If your ATM supports dialling a number when there is an error, then enter 555-0180 as this number and set up your account on The DPL Group eMMS (www.dplwireless.com) to email / text message you with the alarm named “Trouble”. This alarm means your ATM has an error. Note that this is not the same # as for Extended Service, 2 Way remote management software users.

Note: You must contact your Financial Service Provider to set up your ATM with them. You must activate your Hercules Plus before it will communicate correctly.

4 Extended Service, 2 Way Configuration: This section is optional. Only configure ‘2 Way’ in ATMs that use remote management software. In the ATM Terminal Configuration / More Options / and RMS (4) (ex.Triton Connect), set the ATM to dial 555-0155 for the management software (AIMS/RMS). Make sure the baud rate is 14,400 or less. Note what your baud rate is and any other protocol settings. (The Hercules Plus supports v.22bis, v.32 and v.32bis (2400 – 14,400) baud rates for 2 Way.)

Call your Representative or Tech Support at 800-561-8880 and give the details on your ATM including model number and any protocol settings. Indicate you need 2 Way enabled.

You must also install an application called “Hercules Connect” (ATM Client Stub) on the computer that you run the Management Software on. As with any new installation, backup your data first and then contact Tech Support for the installation files for the Hercules Connect and its installation guide.

Note: The software supports the use of regular (dial modem) and virtual (IP modem) ATM units. This allows users to upgrade to the Hercules Plus over a period of time and still use their software to communicate to existing dial line modems in the field with the same software package and computer. The software only needs to be installed once. Multi-modem multi server configurations are supported.

ATM Offline emails: (ATM inactivity and re-activity emails) Please note that The DPL Group will email you in the case where we lose communications with your wireless unit for more than 55 minutes. You must have an eMMS account with The DPL Group to enable this feature – see above.
