1. SITUATION What has happened, what is happening, or what is required. 1 sentence

In order to complete PO 190 & 290 Survival and PO 106 & 206 Range training, selected cadets will participate in Exercise Fire Drop at CFB Borden from 21-23 Oct 2011.

2. MISSION What are we going to do to - What is the Commander’s Intention / Expectation at completion

The Staff and Cadets of ABC will be conducting a fall training exercise on 21-23 Oct 11. This exercise will be an introduction to PO’s that will be covered in the year to come, 80 Cadets may attend. This exercise will include an introduction to abseil.

3. EXECUTION How we are going to do it. The “nuts & bolts” a. General Outline: In a nutshell… this is how

Operation Fire Drop will be conducted from 21-23 Oct 11. The training will take place at CFB Borden and will be based on selected material from the Survival and Range portion on the cadet training program. Abseil instruction will also be conducted. This exercise will be conducted in 6 phases: or any number of phases required

a. Phase 1 – Advance Party b. Phase 2 – Arrival and intake c. Phase 3 – Execution d. Phase 4 – Kit Return e. Phase 5 – Clean up b. Groupings and Taskings: Specific Tasks required. Who is involved, and what is to be done

Phase 1 – Advance party

i. Groupings: CO, 2IC, TrgO, Advance Party Cadets ii. Taskings: (1) Meet and Travel to Blackdown Training Center (2) Set up Sleeping Quarters (3) Set up equipment

Phase Two – Arrival and Intake: i. Groupings: Bus Escort and NCO’s Tasking: i. Confirm Health Cards ii. Confirm Numbers iii. Escort Cadets to Trg Site

Phase Three – Execution i. Groupings: All Staff/NCO’s

4. SERVICE SUPPORT Administration and Logistics. Answers to common questions and procedures, examples below – BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

a. Accommodations: Blackdown Training Center. Biv Sites through Gate # 12 and Training Area H, triangle biv.

b. Feeding and Rations: Meals as per training schedule. Rations: Meals Ready- To-Eat (MRE)

c. Training Facilities: Field, Training Area H

d. Transport: School Bus x 2 for Departure. (1) Pick up has been requested to move Unit trailer. e. Medical: All officers with valid First Aid Certificates will administer First- Aid. 911 will be used for Emergencies. A vehicle will be designated as a safety Vehicle.

f. Dress: CF Combats with berets or appropriate civilian attire. Cadets shall not wear CADPAT clothing. Olive Drab pattern combats are the only authorized field dress for cadets.

g. Radios: 10 Short range radios and batteries have been requested.

5. COMMAND AND SIGNALS Who is in charge. How do you reach them?

Task Organization: List those involved in the organization of this OpO.

1. SITUATION

The situation is a statement between one and three sentences long that gives a brief and very general outline.

2. MISSION

The mission will consist of the goals and objectives of the exercise. The words SHALL and WILL may be used to ensure the mission objectives are understood.

3. EXECUTION a. General Outline. This segment will describe what the whole group will be doing, a general outline, # of phases.

(1) Phase 1. (What to do – before activity)

(2) Phase 2. (Execution – During Activity)

(3) Phase 3 (What to do – after activity)

b. Grouping and Tasks. You will outline the assignments of the members involved in the exercise, answer the 5 W's. ie: COMD, PL WO, NCOIC, DUTY NCO, DCO, CO... ETC, groupings.

Phase 1 –

c. Coordinating Instructions. In this segment you will set the timings of the activity. Report and departure times, order of march or troop movement. Order of assignments to be done both before, during and after the exercise.

(5) rendezvous;

(6) patrols;

(7) security;

(8) priority of work;

(9) construction details; and

(10) other required coordination.

4. SERVICE SUPPORT a. Administration. Outline all procedures to be followed by the ADMO or the staff responsible. ie: Green cards, sign in sheets, medication lists, LOI's, and any other paper work not covered in this OPS Order. b. Ammunition. Fill out any request forms and attach. Indicate quantity and type of ammunition needed and requested for the exercise.

c. Dress. Indicate the type of dress needed for the entire duration of the exercise. Note if dress is to be ordered or picked up (MSA). d. Equipment/Tools. Indicate all equipment needed for the exercise and group them according to place of origin and priority of need. For example: DND MSA), SQN Stores, SQN Supply, SQN Purchase. Include pick up times, locations and personnel. e. Transport. Outline all transportation needs. Include the names of transport companies being used. Include all timings and type (size) of vehicle needed. Also include the need for a driver if required. Don't forget emergency vehicles. List number of riders per vehicle. ie: 45 cadets on bus #1, 20 cadets plus equipment on bus #2. Stores in panel van with one driver. f. Medical. Give address, phone number and directions (map) of the closest medical facility. Have medical facility and transportation authority (local ambulance) notified of training area and ease of (best) access to the training area. List the procedures to follow when medical aid is needed.

(1) Emergency. Report to Section Comd ASAP

(2) Routine. Sick parade will be at 0830hrs HQ each morning. g. Feeding & Rations. List food requirements for the exercise. Include type of rations, number of rations (breakfast, lunch, dinner), items required by members and where, when and how the rations are being picked up. h. Kit Carriage. Describe the type of kit (bag, suit case) that each member will be required to use. Make note if the kit has to be carried for long periods of time. Where and how will the kit be taken to the exercise area. Minimum requirement. How the kit will be stored during the exercise. i. Facilities / Accommodations. Describe the type and quantity of facilities needed for the exercise. ie: 4 classrooms or 2 x 5 man tents or 6 MODs with 3 sections each or 3 gyms or 1 room and male and female bathrooms and a kitchen. j. Radios. Describe or list type and quantity of radios required. k. Stores. Any stores required. l. Resupply. Answer the 5 Ws. m. POL. What type and quantity. n. Water. Indicate where and how much water will be needed. o. Environment. Normal precautions for filling stoves and lanterns. No cutting of trees or growth, drip pans for vehicles. All ablutions must be in out house. Garbage. Spills. p. Fire Regulations / Fire fighting. q. Medications. Control and supervision. r. Restricted Areas. Female/Male out of bounds. s. Hygiene. Arrangements for ablutions.

5. COMMAND AND SIGNAL a. Groups. List the long-term location and movement of large groups. Under each group list the location of the OPI, HQ and other relative personal. b. Command Structure. c. Contact Personnel. Names and phone numbers. Use annex. d. Radio/Phone. List the radio/phone procedures for the exercise including:

(1) channel/numbers being used (radio frequencies - main & alternate);

(2) call signs;

(3) emergency signals (horns, whistle);

(4) passwords;

(5) code words;

(6) procedures; and

(7) radio silence SOIs. e. Synchronize Watches. Indicate times and locations for synchronizing and time checks. f. Questions and Answers. Have a list of questions ready to ensure the understanding of all members. These will be done by the OPI during the "O-Group". You will also be responsible to leave space for notes about the questions that come up during the "O-Group". g. Words of Encouragement. Always end with words of encouragement and inspiration.
