Celebrating Red Ribbon Week at Wentworth

CELEBRATING RED RIBBON WEEK AT WENTWORTH OCT. 17-OCT. 21 Dear Wentworth Staff and Parents: History: For those of you who may not know, Red Ribbon Week was born in response to the death of Drug Enforcement Administrative Agent, Enrique (Kaki) Cameron. Members of the National Family Partnership wore small badges of red satin in memory of Cameron and to encourage others to take a stand against drugs. Kaki Cameron’s murder served as a catalyst to call people to action, and make a visible commitment by wearing and displaying Red Ribbons as a symbol of the nation’s intolerance to drugs. This year Wentworth Elementary will celebrate Red Ribbon Week with a variety of activities. We will also highlight the importance of having a bully-free school during this time. We will participate in fun theme days whereby staff and children will dress a certain way to encourage a drug-free message.

Please note the following days and encourage your children to participate: Monday – Wear neon colors and shades because “our future is bright drug- free” Tuesday – “Team up against drugs”- wear your favorite sports team’s shirt Wednesday – Wear a tacky outfit day because “drugs and bullying are tacky.” Thursday – Wear red to show support for Red Ribbon Week Friday – Wear pink to show our support of being drug and cancer free We will hold a trivia contest daily pertaining to a drug fact for 3-5 th graders. There will be a drawing on Friday and winners will be announced. Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders will be asked to create an art project symbolizing what they like to do that makes them “high on life” to be displayed. During guidance class topics of being drug- free and definitions of bullying along with coping skills will be discussed. Have fun! Tracey Anderson, School Counselor
