InterGrain Wheat Breeder

Leading cereal breeding company InterGrain Pty Ltd is seeking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic wheat breeder to be based in Perth, Western Australia.

Reporting to the CEO you will be responsible for leading one of the wheat breeding programs. You will work closely with the other Plant Breeders, the Marketing Manager and the Business Manager. The role will involve:

• Strategic development and operational leadership of a wheat breeding program • Active contribution to the Strategic Management Team • Management of a technical team and program budget • Interaction with service providers including cereal chemists, molecular biologists, physiologists and trial contractors • Regular interaction with our research partners, including Monsanto • Development of national and international networks in the cereal industry • Represent and promote InterGrain at industry events

The successful applicant will be required to have experience in plant breeding preferably wheat or barley breeding, hold appropriate qualifications, be reliable and possess excellent planning, oral and written communication skills. Applicants will need to be disciplined with a strong work ethic and willing to undertake frequent travel.

SELECTION CRITERIA 1. Tertiary qualifications in plant breeding or genetics, with a PhD in these fields strongly preferred. 2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in applied field-based plant breeding, including the management of field trials, assessment of disease resistances and evaluation of grain quality. 3. High level statistical skills, including experience in trial design and analysis. 4. Excellent knowledge of molecular technologies and their application in breeding programs. 5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with industry to identify and prioritise industry relevant breeding priorities. 6. Excellent oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and an ability to work as a member of a team. 7. High level organizational skills, and strong staff management capabilities. 8. High level of self-motivation and initiative including the ability to work independently. 9.
