Seen a Drop in Participation During the Previous Cluster Meetings, the Gathering Was Open

Georgia Logistics cluster Meeting, Tbilisi, 11 March 2009 ______

Subject: GEORGIA LOGISTICS CLUSTER MEETING

Date/ Wednesday, 11 March, 14:00h-15:00h Location: WFP Office, Tbilisi, Georgia Chair: WFP Present: Attendees: ACF, UNHCR, Save the Children, IOCC, FAO

1 HIGHLIGHTS

 Seen a drop in participation during the previous Cluster Meetings, the gathering was open with an open discussion on the future of Georgia Logistics Cluster.  The drop in participation was read as a sign of the decreasing need for Logistics support and coordination. The national transport network is almost back to normal conditions and the peak period of distribution is behind for many of the participating Agencies and NGOs.  However during the discussion emerged that the Coordination provided by the Cluster demonstrated to be a really useful tool for many of the participants, and is so an instrument that is still believed to be topical.  For the above reasons was decided to maintain the Cluster coordination mechanism in place, but given the operational scaling down of many of the participating Agencies and NGO, and so the needs for coordination, was decide to decrease the frequency of the meeting from every to weeks to monthly.  Given also that WFP’s Cluster custodianship was so far assured by WFP Staff present on the ground thanks to its Special Operation, and given that WFP’s SO in support of humanitarian community will be closed on the 31st of March, the discussion was open to explore availability of other agency and NGO to take over this task.  ACF Georgia, expressed availability as possible candidate as next Georgia Logistics cluster custodian, further discussion will follow.
