Post title: Senior Research Assistant/Research Fellow Post number: Academic Unit/Service: Geography and Environment Career pathway: ERE Level: 4/27 *ERE category: Research focused Posts responsible to: Dr Jadunandan Dash Posts responsible for: Undertaking Research on Leverhulme trust funded project on “Assessing current and future tropical cyclone vulnerability in east India by combining remotely sensed and socio-economic data” Post base: Office-based (some Field work)

Job purpose To undertake research and would provide a major contribution to dissemination through writing reports and journals articles on the project ‘Assessing current and future tropical cyclone vulnerability in east India by combining remotely sensed and socio-economic data”. To collect and analyse remote sensing data, participate in the field work and analyse the social survey data.

Key accountabilities/primary responsibilities % Time 1. To conduct research by combining multi-decadal satellite remote sensing and socio-economic 65% data and develop a model to identify landcover/landuse types that are most susceptible to damage following tropical cyclones 2. Participate in field work in India to collect ground data for remote sensing image classification and 10% social survey 3. To present the project work at national and international conferences 5% 4. To prepare annual project reports and co-ordinate with the steering committee 5% 5. To write up the findings from the project for submission to leading international journals 10% 6. Any other duties as allocated by the line manager following consultation with the post holder. 5%
