Columbia County Emergency Management Department Part 1 Bill and Sue Jones’s daughter, Sara, is a 13 year old quadriplegic who needs electricity for body temperature control. Bill and Sue fully understand the need to be prepared for a hurricane. Several years ago they purchased a generator to power a small air conditioner unit for Sara’s room. They also maintain a supply of fuel for the generator.

As with past storms the Joneses chose to ride the hurricane out from the comfort of their home. Their home sustained minor damage when several trees fell on the roof.

He has resided in the county for over 20 years in a site built home.

James has been an insulin dependent diabetic for the past 24 years. Due to his diabetes his right foot was amputated three years ago and he requires crutches and a wheelchair to move around.

James has always stayed at home during previous hurricanes as his home is not in a flood zone and did the same for Hurricane Adam.

During the storm a branch smashed the living room window however the remainder of his home survived the storm relatively undamaged.

James being a very self-sufficient man was trying to place a sheet of plywood over the broken window when he fell fracturing both of his wrists.

After being released from the hospital he finds that he can no longer give himself his insulin injections, use his crutches or wheelchair nor perform any of his other basic human needs.
