The North Westminster Drug and Alcohol Service (NWDAS) provide a range of integrated specialist substance misuse services to the residents of north Westminster. The service is delivered from two main sites: The Neighbourhood Centre (at 474 Harrow Road) and Structured Intervention Centre (at 209 Harrow Road)
NWDAS is committed to providing opportunities for individuals to make positive changes in their lives, through a non-judgemental, harm reduction based approach that values the strengths and choices of those individuals.
As an integrated service, we actively promote ‘recovery’ and work with individuals, those affected by someone else’s substance misuse and the local community to improve the health, wellbeing and functioning of Westminster residents.
An important part of this role will be to embed, enhance and develop service user involvement and peer mentoring across the service as well as supporting the Community Reintegration team to facilitate the group work programme at 209 Harrow Road. This role will include supporting the service user committee, service user representatives and leads across the service, provide training, supervision and support to the peer mentoring scheme as part of an accredited peer mentor scheme.
The post holder will work from both centres and, at times, across the local community, undertaking ‘duty’ and ‘care-coordination’ functions, working with service users from the point of first contact through to their planned exit from the service following treatment.
The post holder will work 37.5 hours per week and will demonstrate a high degree of flexibility in order

3. 8. Role-specific responsibilities
3.1 To capture, collate and disseminate feedback from service users through a variety of mechanisms, and feed this into service development both locally and organisationally, and, enhance and develop service user involvement across the service.
3.2 To support the service user committee and social club to fulfil their functions, and develop innovative solutions to involving service users in contributing to the development and provision of services within NWDAS. 3.3 To support service user leads across the service through monthly supervisions.
3.4 To carry a client caseload and undertake a variety of care coordination responsibilities;
Page 2 of 8 www.wdp.org.uk supporting clients throughout their treatment journey and providing structured 1-2-1 key working to all clients engaged in treatment in both centres.
3.5 To recruit, train, supervise and allocate tasks for peer mentors. This element of the post holder’s role will also include developing innovative and creative ways to utilise peer mentors across the service. You will also be responsible for ensuring safe practice through development of processes and protocols.
3.6 To develop and deliver an accredited peer mentor training programme designed to meet the criteria for OCN accreditation.
3.7 To coordinate delivery of the training, utilising existing staff within NWDAS and WDP to provide specialist training elements
3.8 To provide internal assessment for the course, and provide high quality finished portfolios to present to internal verifier for submission to accreditors
3.9 To support applicants for the training with opportunities and support with achieving the necessary literacy levels needed to be able to complete the course
3.10 To liaise with WDP service managers, other providers within the Tri-borough and the volunteer development officer to place peer mentors throughout the organisation and the Tri-Borough services, and assure that the relevant support packages are in place for peer mentors being placed outside of NWDAS
3.11 To liaise with NWDAS’ ETE department to provide move on options for peer mentors who complete their placements
3.12 To facilitate groups for service users and contribute to delivering training where appropriate.
3.13 To supervise volunteers to support the Recovery Champion Practitioner role
3.14 To provide monthly reports to evidence progress and outcomes
3.15 To support tri-borough initiatives in promotion and development of service user involvement, and build partnerships to support reintegration for service users
