NEW PARENTS PACK

Clearly it is easier said than done. The first commandment in the Torah is God’s command to to go forth and multiply and as a synagogue we are thrilled for you and look – פב רו ורב בוו forward to welcoming your new baby into the community.

However we also understand that becoming a new parent can be exciting, overwhelming, scary and exasperating and don’t want you to feel alone entering into this new chapter of your life. FRS is not just a synagogue, we are not just here for services on Shabbat and festivals, we are a community and want to help and support you in any way we can. Therefore we have put together some information we thought you might find useful in the coming weeks or months and hope that you will also feedback to us what might be missing here so that we can keep helping other parents in the future. We have tried to give you some answers to the Jewish questions which might arise at this time as well as giving you information about what we as a community provide at this time and what is on offer locally or can be accessed via the web.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me or the synagogue office if you need any help or advice that you think we can provide or if you just need a listening ear and a bit of support.

Mazel Tov and sending blessing of strength to take you on this next stage of your journey,

Rabbi Miriam Berger

[email protected] CHESED

Chesed means 'kindness' in Hebrew.

What does Chesed do?

Everyone needs a little help from time to time. Chesed is the group within FRS that tries to make sure we are there when you need that extra bit of support.

Chesed is the group which aims to strengthen the ties of community in FRS in very practical ways:

Page 5  helping members who need support,  bringing together members with similar interests,  making you feel at home at FRS.

For more information or help please contact the FRS Office 020 8446 3244 http://www.frsonline.org/chesed.html Email: [email protected]

Page 6 The Synagogue has a lot of activities for families and children of all ages. Check out the FRS website and click on the Kids @ FRS link to see what is available. http://www.frsonline.org/about_us.html FRS BABY & TODDLER GROUP

Held on Tuesday mornings 9:30 am - 11:30 am term time only.

All members are welcome to attend this drop-in group. A warm atmosphere, a broad selection of toys, books, arts & crafts changed weekly, fruit snacks provided, story time and singing. A great way to meet other Mums in the community. There is a nominal charge of £3 per morning to cover costs.

Please Note: That the doors close once we reach 30 children for health and safety reasons, so you are advised to come as early as possible. KUDDLE UP SHABBAT

A Shabbat experience for the under 7s at FRS. Join Rabbi Miriam Berger and others for Shabbat songs, blessings and to welcome Shabbat with your families and friends.

This is a great opportunity to welcome Shabbat with your child and allow them to feel comfortable with their synagogue, Shabbat songs and the blessings for Shabbat.

Takes place every Friday 4.15 pm – 5 pm. FRS KINDERGARTEN

The Reform Jewish Kindergarten is attached to the synagogue for members of the Shul. Ofsted rated FRS Kindergarten ‘Outstanding’ in October 2005 and then again in November 2009. FRS Kindergarten provides a warm nurturing environment providing a quality service. They also offer ‘optional’ additional services including Jewish studies, Hebrew, music and movement and fitness.

It is open from 9:15 am to 12:15pm Monday to Friday during term times and parents can choose to pay for additional hours including an early morning club and extended day sessions for those children who have been at the Kindergarten for at least three terms or are in the Swans Class. Children can start from the age of two years six months however FRS Kindergarten can only take a maximum of 60 children so if you are thinking about sending your child it is never too early to put your child on the waiting list.
