Deceptive Practices and other events
29 Sep – 30 Oct 16, 0900-1700 hours. Theft by Deception. 5023 N Oriole Ave. Victim stated that unk off(s) had used a Discover credit/debit card and withdrew $1,392.00 from his personal checking account. The victim had his bank freeze his account while HHPD Detective Division investigates. 3-8 Oct 16, 1100 hours. Theft by Deception. 4833 N Olcott Ave. Victim stated that unk off(s) had made purchases with her Chase Sapphire card without her permission in the amount of $482.25. The three transactions were at I like Bus.com, FSI Georgia Power and Bill Matrix. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 27 Oct 16, 1400 hours. Theft from Person/Pick pocket. 4761 N Nagle Ave. (Buteras). Victim stated that he had made a withdrawal from his bank in the amount of $3,500.00 and placed it inside of his jacket pocket. The victim then said that he drove to Buteras to do some shopping. While inside of the store he had taken his jacket off hanging it over some boxes. He was then approached by an F/W subject, stocky build, blond hair with dark roots, and dark colored zip front jacket with a light colored shirt underneath, dark colored knee length pants and dark sunglasses who assisted the victim with putting back on his jacket. The F/W subject then exited the store quickly walking out thru the in only door. The victim then discovered that the money was now missing from his jacket. This incident was captured on CCTV. HHPD Detective Division investigating. Burglary / Thefts / Criminal Damage to Property 1 Oct 16, 1430 hours. Theft from Building. 4725 N Harlem Ave. (Marshalls). Victim stated that she had hung her purse on a hook inside the dressing area room then left to pay for some items. Upon returning to the dressing room she observed that unk off(s) had taken her brown leather strap purse that contained a IL ID card, social security card, 2 debit bank cards and $500.00 in U.S.C. HHPD then learned that on 4 Oct 16, the victims purse was mailed make to her without an return address with all items inside of it except for the currency. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 6 Oct 16, 1828 hours. Retail Theft. 4614 N Harlem Ave. (Plato’s Closet). Store supervisor stated that 2 F/B subjects had set off the alarm as they were exiting the store. Description given was subject #1 F/B, late teens to early 20’s, 5’9” tall, med build wearing a pink hat, military green jacket carrying a pile of clothes valued at approximately $80.00. Subject #2 F/B. late teens to early 20’s, 5’5” tall, med build wearing a white/blue cap, grey jacket, black pants, light colored gym shoes carrying a pair of boots and a shirt on a hanger valued at approximately $30.00. Incident captured on CCTV. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 14 Oct 16, 1534 hours. Retail Theft. 7401 W Lawrence Ave. (Mariano’s). Loss Prevention agent stated that he observed a F/W subject place several bottles of Grey Goose vodka inside of Mariano’s reusable plastic bags. Subject then placed the bags inside of a push cart along with other store merchandise then exited the store without paying for $243.00 worth of merchandise. Loss Prevention agent then stopped the subject escorting her back to the security office and HHPD was then contacted. A Kwiatkowska, Celina F/W 28 YOA, 7525 W Lawrence Ave, HH was charged with Misdemeanor Retail Theft on a signed long form complaint. 14 Oct 16, 1914 hours. Retail Theft. 4761 N Nagle Ave. (Buteras). Loss Prevention agent stated that he was alerted by a store employee that a M/W subject had placed alcohol inside of his back pack and was attempting to leave the store. Loss Prevention then stopped the subject in the parking lot and recovered a gallon jug od Carlo Rossi Red Wine inside of the subjects backpack. A Cobian, Alexander M M/W 22 YOA, 2658 N Neva, Chicago was charged with Misdemeanor Retail Theft on a signed long form complaint. 14 Oct 16, 1400 hours. Retail Theft. 4715 N Harlem Ave. (Gamestop). The witness stated he observed a M/H or a M/W subject conceal store merchandise on his person then left the store without paying. Witness then informed the store manager. Incident captured on CCTV. Taken was: 2 Wii U remotes valued at $39.99 each and 2 Xbox One dual chargers valued at $24.99 each. Offender is described as being 5’10” tall, med build, goatee, between 20-30 YOA, wearing a blue cap and a blue Michael Jordan sweat jacket. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 16 Oct 16, 1345-1608 hours. Burglary to Motor Vehicle. 4631 N Overhill Ave. (Norridge Park District lot). Victim stated that unk off(s) had smashed out her rear drivers side back seat window, tool used unk, on her parked grey 2013 Mercedes – Benz 350 series and had taken her brown/tan Louis Vuitton purse valued at $1,700.00. The purse also had inside a BMO Harris bank check book, work id and miscellaneous papers. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 15-16 Oct 16, 2300-0754 hours. Criminal Defacement of Property. 7239 W Wilson Ave. (Harwood Heights Auto Body). HHPD officer observed graffiti spray painted on local businesses by an unk off(s). The word “SLiP” in black spray paint in bubble type letters was observed on the following businesses: 7239 W Wilson Ave, Harwood Heights Auto Body East Wall, 7201 W Wilson Ave, Magic Flowers South Wall, 7444 W Wilson Ave, LabPro/Excel Med East Wall, 4633 N Olcott Ave, OTA South Wall, 6850 W Montrose Ave, Family Dental/Zee’s Construction East Wall and 7455 W Lawrence Ave parking lot on a white Mitsubishi work truck. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 24 Oct 16, 0130-0735 hours. Criminal Damage to Property. 4412 N Oak Park Ave. Victim stated that unk off(s) had keyed the entire passenger side of her parked gray 2012 Nissan Murano. Victim also stated that she had got up to get a drink and looked out her front window turning the living room lights on and that 3 subjects, 2 male and 1 female ran from beside her vehicle towards St. Rosalie’s parking lot. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 26 Oct 16, 0903 hours. Theft from Motor Vehicle. 4939 N Oriole Ave. Victim stated that unk off(s) had taken his golf bag, clubs and shoes from the bed of his parked dark blue, 2013, Chevy Avalanche. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 26 Oct 16, 1816 hours. Retail Theft. 4761 N Nagle Ave. (Buteras). Loss Prevention agent stated that he observed a M/W subject later ID as a Ramos, Robert 17 YOA, 1626 N Kedvale, Chicago take two packages of sour patch candy and place them inside his pocket then exited the store without paying for the merchandise. Subject was stopped by Loss Prevention agent. No charges filed and candy returned. Subject was given a trespass warning. Crimes against Persons 13 Oct 16, 1143 hours. Battery. 4600 N Olcott Ave. (FCL Graphics). The victim stated he was backing his semi-truck inside of the loading dock and had his delivery load refused by the shipping boss because he was too close to the dock wall. Both subjects got into a heated argument then a physical altercation with punches thrown and other workers had to step in a separate the two. HHPD officers arrived on the scene and after investigating placed the aggressor into custody for Misdemeanor Battery ID as a Kasper, Michael M/W 52 YOA, 206 Hillcrest Dr. Algonquin on a signed long form complaint. 20 Oct 16, 0600 hours. Disorderly Conduct. 4900 block Oketo Ave. Victim stated that she was walking S/B Oketo Ave and that a M/H, 40- 50 YOA stopped his dark colored truck next to her and opened the driver’s side door attempting to grab her. The victim then fled onto Ainslie Ave and began knocking on doors for assistance. Victim did not report this incident until 1823 hours. HHPD Detective Division investigating. 24 Oct 16, 1611 hours. Assault/Resisting a Peace Officer. 7352 W Lawrence Ave. (Baltic Café). Victim stated that her ex-husband was inside of her restaurant and causing a disturbance and that he is highly intoxicated. Victim also stated that a patron had to step in front of him to stop him from striking her. The ex-husband then left on foot and was alter apprehended by arriving HHPD officers. The subject refused to listen to officers commands and pushed and pulled away from officers attempting to place him into custody. A Narloch, Arkadiusz M/W 39 YOA, 5025 N Overhill, Norridge was charged with Misdemeanor Assault and Resisting a Peace Officer on signed complaints and was held in lieu of a bond hearing. Seniors
Home repair scams/ Ruse burglaries. Reminder: Do not allow anyone into your residence that you do not know and didn’t call for service. Scam artists knock on your door offering to repair something in or around your home for a very low price. They ask you to pay upfront and you will never see them again or if you allow them inside your residence, they will distract you and steal your valuables. All Village Employees/PublicWorks have IDs on them at all times. Ask for ID and call 911 for verification.
THE VILLAGE HAS TWO RED LIGHT CAMERAS, HARLEM AND LAWRENCE IS A NO TURN ON RED INTERSECTION, TWO SIGNS ARE POSTED. HARLEM AND FOSTER IS A NO TURN ON RED WHEN PEDESTRIANS ARE PRESENT, THIS MEANS YOU CAN TURN BUT YOU MUST STILL COME TO A COMPLETE STOP FIRST BEFORE YOU NAVAGATE YOUR TURN AND THAT NO PEDESTRIANS ARE PRESENT.
