We Live in the Age of Entitlement. We Make Everything All About Us; What We Want, What

Who

We live in the age of entitlement. We make everything all about us; what we want, what we deserve, what we think is owed to us, and what we have earned. Our lives are surrounded by quick-fix schemes to feed our sense of entitlement. Our minds are infiltrated by marketing and advertising that only lures us deeper into our already selfish, sinful nature of thinking we deserve things we don't have.

Reality check: the only thing we deserve is death. You deserve death. We each deserve death. That’s it. Think that sounds harsh? It may be hard to swallow, but it is the truth.

Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Though, in our sin, we often think we are entitled to receive so many things, the fact of the matter is because of that very sin (entitlement, selfishness, self-centeredness) the only thing we have earned on our own is death. But praise God, it doesn't end there. Our heavenly Father loved us despite our sin and had a plan to free us through His Son Jesus Christ.

Romans 3:23-25 says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God's righteousness, because in his divine forbearance he had passed over former sins."

So who is this Jesus?

God sent His Son Jesus to the earth—fully God and fully man—to be the answer. Jesus is the substitution and our atoning sacrifice. And this is the part that should blow us away—He did it for us. Jesus Christ, the spotless lamb who knew no sin, became sin for us, as He willingly took our place and took what we deserved by dying a brutal death on the cross. That changed everything.

With His final breath, He conquered and freed us from the one thing we deserve—death. He is the One who saved us. He is our substitution.

Jesus is the answer.
