We feel that it is very important for all students to have quality instruments that are in good working condition. Therefore, when students rent, lease, or purchase an instrument, it is crucial to acquire one that enables success.

A list of recommended instruments is available in this booklet. Please come by or call us for more information if you have any questions regarding the quality of a musical instrument you are considering to purchase/rent.

With all personal instruments, it is recommended that the instrument be insured though your homeowner’s policy or a private company. The school district will not assume liability for maintenance or damage of personal instruments.

School Owned Instruments

SISD furnishes the following instruments for students to use: oboe, bassoon, French horn, euphonium, tuba, and some percussive instruments. Students must provide their own personal accessories such as mouthpieces, drumsticks, mallets, reeds, oils, and cork grease.

A student is responsible for the maintenance and repair of individual instruments while they are in his/her possession (this includes instrument damages). Students are expected to return all school owned instruments at the end of the year in the condition that they were issued. The instrument will be inspected and the student must pay for any repairs. After returning an instrument, students will check out an instrument for 7th grade from Sunnyvale Middle School. Music Companies During band sign up night we will have listed information from two music companies: Williamson Music Co. and McKay Music Co. Both of these companies have representatives that service Sunnyvale ISD and our band students. However, they are not the only sources for instruments. We have also listed the other approved companies in the area. Please be sure to request the instruments and supplies on the recommended list.
