Daughters of the American Revolution – Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship -deadline February 8 to Guidance Office The Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship is awarded to graduating high school students who will pursue an undergraduate degree with a concentrated study of a minimum of 24 credit hours in American History and American Government. The Dr. Aura-Lee A. and James Hobbs Pittenger American History Scholarship is an award of $2,000 each year for up to four years with annual transcript review by the National Chairman required for renewal. Application Available in Guidance Office Historical Society of Topsail Island – Deadline February 10 to Guidance Office Applicant must present 2 letters of recommendation and evidence of community involvement or service. Essay required – chose an historical event which occurred in either Onslow or Pender county and present that information in at least 500 words, a power point presentation, or an original piece of visual art, through song, or an original poem, which demonstrates complete understanding of the event and its historical importance. KFC Colonel Scholars Program – deadline February 10, 2010 www.kfcscholars.org (Available online December 1, 2009) The KFC Colonel's Scholars Program® is looking for high school seniors with entrepreneurial drive, strong perseverance, demonstrated financial need, and who want to pursue a college education at an accredited public institution in the state they reside. This program is offered to high school seniors planning to attend a public in-state college or university. Students who meet the criteria may apply online to become a KFC’s Colonel’s Scholar. Students selected for this scholarship are eligible to receive up to $20,000 to complete a bachelor’s degree program. www.kfcscholars.org Eighth Annual National Co-Op Scholarship Program – deadline February 15, 2010 www.co-op.edu The National Commission will award 170 merit co-op scholarships of $6,000 each, for a total renewable value of $4,200,000. These merit co-op scholarships will be awarded to high school seniors and transfer students who plan to participate in college cooperative education at one of our Partner Colleges and Universities including Drexel University, Johnson & Wales University, Kettering University, Pace University, Rochester Institute of Technology, University of Cincinnati, University of Toledo, Wentworth Institute of Technology. Apply online www.co-op.edu Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) –-deadline February 15 The Cape Fear Post of the Society of American Military Engineers is pleased to announce its 2010 scholarship program in the amount of $1000 to a senior planning to pursue an engineering degree in college. Students demonstrating academic excellence, an interest in the sciences, and who have been active in extracurricular activities should apply. Applications are available in the guidance office. East Carolina University Maynard Scholarship – deadline February 16, 2010 http://www.ecu.edu/cs- educ/maynardscholars/ James and Connie Maynard and the College of Education established the Maynard Scholarship at East Carolina University. This four year $20,000 scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school seniors each year. The scholarship is modeled after the N.C. Teaching Fellows Scholarship and as so, recipients will be expected to teach in a public, charter or government school for four years in one of the stated counties following graduation. Individuals have up to seven years to complete this requirement. The Maynard Scholarship is administered from the ECU NC Teaching Fellows office. This program is a competitive, merit-based scholarship/loan program available to students who have chosen to enter the nursing profession, and is

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements: present a minimum weighted grade point average (GPA) of a 3.00, must be NC residents for tuition purposes, plan to enter a nursing program at a participating college or university in the state of North Carolina or hospitals that offer nurse education programs which prepare students for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN), be enrolled on a full- time basis. Applicants must be accepted and enrolled in a public North Carolina college or university, present one official transcript from the high school and college or university attended demonstrating at least a 3.0 grade point average (GPA), and provide 2 letters of recommendation. Additional scholarships will be awarded based on available funding. Awards may be used toward the payment for tuition, fees, or books. Essay is also required. Daughters of the American Revolution Native American Scholarship – Deadline April 1, 2010 The American Indians Committee of the DAR awards this scholarship to Native Americans and is intended to help Native American students of any age, any tribe and in any state striving to get an education. All awards are judged based on financial need and academic achievement. This is a one-time $1,000 award. Application available in Guidance Office. Norah Morris Memorial Scholarship – deadline April 1 A NC student entering college or continuing college who has participated in equestrian activity. www.nccommunityfoundation.org or in guidance office Opal R. and Roland B Howard Memorial Scholarship Endowment – deadline April 1 Available to any student planning to attend continue their education in a training program, 2 year, or 4 year college. www.nccommunityfoundation.org or in guidance office Wilmington Civitan Scholarship– deadline April 6 to guidance office Award amount varies from $1000 to $2500 to be awarded over 2 semesters. Award money may be used to further education in the institution of the student’s choice including college, technical institute, nursing school, business or trade school. The following points will be considered in selecting the winner; scholastic ability/achievement, citizenship, leadership and service, and financial need. Miller-Motte College, Wilmington Campus – deadline April 14, 2010 Awards are in the amount of half the cost of the 2010 tuition. Students enrolling in a MMC Associate Degree Program are eligible. There is a required scholarship test given at MMC. Pender County Sheriff’s Office – deadline May 3, 2010 The Pender County Sheriff’s Office is offering three $1000 scholarships to high school seniors who plan to enter the field of law enforcement. One scholarship will be awarded to each of the county’s high schools. Applicants must be a senior, have a letter of acceptance from an accredited institute of higher learning, plan to obtain a degree in the field of law enforcement.
