Congressman John Campbell Washington, DC Office 2402 Rayburn House Office Building Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressmen John Campbell:

I am furious about the amount of trees being executed in a heart stopping rate! My name is Amit Yativ, and I am outraged about a particular problem that humans have caused. I want to talk to you about deforestation. Deforestation is an outrageous problem! It can cause global warming, decrease oxygen, and increase carbon dioxide. Animals can also get extinct or endangered because deforestation ruins animal habitats. When animals don’t have shelter, they can die quickly from the climate or from hunger and it is not fair for the animals.

Most animals can die but some of them can survive like we survive in even more dangerous things. Let me tell you this, most of the animals will not survive without their shelter, their shelter is getting ruined by one thing that we really need that causes damage is paper, but I think that oxygen is more important. We get paper and we do not care about animals?! It just cracks my heart in half to see a living thing die like that, I am sure that you know that trees are living things too. Of course you do.

Do you? Well paper is good but is it worth killing millions of animals? I do not think so!

Close your eyes for a second and imagine that a giant comes to your house and destroys it! You would lose everything that you worked hard to get or for animals, they would lose everything that they worked hard to make. Animals work hard to make their houses; it takes hours, days, even months for a bird to build a simple nest for her chicks and for her to live in! And then, suddenly, humans show up and take down the tree with the nest on it. Who knows, maybe the nest even has chicks in it or the mother bird herself! I know that you have the power to do this task, and let me tell you, it is not such a hard task. You can do it Congressmen John Campbell.

The world needs your help!

Research states that in North America, more then 7 million square inches of trees get cut down every month! Can you imagine how many trees that is? It’s as serious as losing all of your money in one day! Did you know that scientists predict that all the trees in the world will be gone forever in about 40 years? That’s crazy. In 40 years, we might lose our beautiful earth and our lives. We won’t have air! Trees give off air; they get oxygen with the water that they get through the roots. You know that water has some oxygen in it right? Well they take the oxygen out of the water and give off the pure and clean oxygen that we humans need to survive! We are not marine animals. We don’t have gills right? If anybody thinks that we have gills, that person is crazy, because we obviously don’t. Imagine our world without oxygen, humans would die and our earth would look like a big round ball of muck and trash! If I were you, I would do something serious about this situation that’s risking our live.

I know that it is a lot of money but is money worth our lives? I don’t think so! If we don’t do something about this we will pay more expenses throughout the years for repairing the damages that the earth will have if we don’t act NOW! It will save the world money if we do it now or the earth will get worse and it will cost more money to repair what the humans have done to such a beautiful planet! Imagine the earth, over 1,000 years ago. Plants everywhere, fresh air!

No pollution to harm our planet, and look at our planet now! Congressman John Campbell, didn’t you notice that the more inventions that we have, the worse the earth has become? We invented saws and gigantic vehicles and that’s the reason that we have deforestation. I am just saying that, we can’t change anything anymore. It is too late, we already invented those machines and we can’t change it. We can’t get it out of our world forever. It is definitely too late, but I say that we can still do something; I say that if we act now, we can actually stop this problem once and for all! We have to work together!

Research states that more then one million animals die because of deforestation. I think that this is outrageous and that this must stop now before all the animals will be gone and it will be too late! You care for animals don’t you? Then why can’t you try and help those helpless and poor animals that are dying from deforestation right now? It sounds so simple to me and you are a person that I know who can do this task! You have the power! Let me declare that I will not rest until something is done about this! I am a huge fan of the environment and I do not want our world to look like the inside of a trash can! Imagine that! I’m counting on you! The whole world is counting on you.

My second reason is that deforestation causes the amount of oxygen to decrease and the amount of carbon dioxide to increase! That’s bad! That’s very bad! Let me ask you a simple question: What would you rather have all the paper you want or oxygen? Trust me, anybody would prefer oxygen! It’s a matter of life or death! Don’t you get it! You don’t want to die right?

Now one does! Don’t you like that breath of fresh air that you take in the morning? Well if we don’t stop this serious problem, you will have to say bye to your breath of fresh air. You CAN do this task! Both of us know that it’s not that hard, right?!

Research also states that every second, the amount of trees cut down are enough to fill in a football field! Imagine that! Every second! In my opinion, this is unbelievable and must stop immediately before it’s too late. You must fix this awful problem before it’s too late! We can make a better world! You MUST fix this now! Take action now before it’s too late! We can do it. Do this NOW! Why not at least try to give some effort to help the world that is in need of help? You know that everybody needs to work together to do this task right? It’s so important to do that there is no reason to even hesitate to say no. This is a life threatening situation that we have here Congressman!!! We will not survive soon if we don’t do something! I guarantee!!!

Did you know that 100 species of animals get killed every day because of deforestation?

Don’t you feel sorry for the animals? We have to do this, even if it takes forever, we have to try our best and do something NOW! I say we do something about this. If I were you, I would do something because the environment is more important then money, we can live without money, but we can’t live without oxygen which is made by the environment. The more time you wait, the more money you spend, not just the money, the more time you wait, the closer our beautiful earth will be from being completely destroyed! I have a suggestion for you, ACT NOW!

Sincerely,

Amit Yativ 6th Grade Student
