Merlin is 25 years old and has been jumping successfully for years, notably winning Gold for England in 2002. Was jumped in ponies by Sam Oliver. He will be nippy and fast, but might lack the length of stride other horses have to cover the ground. Completed the track in 74.80 seconds. Deborah Scott Garrett (Age 36) Dancing Queen x (Breeding: unknown) Deborah is a riding school manager and has been riding for as long Deborah Scott 3 0.72 sec as she can remember. Jumped frequently when she was younger but now sees it as more of a hobby. Horse has winnings of £873 (notional Garret £333). Completed the qualifier in a time of 72.18 seconds with no time to add. Reece Campion (Age 16) Ballintemple Millie (Breeding unknown) Reece is a full time student and has been jumping with British Tony Campion 4 1.08 sec Showjumping since the age of 8. Has a keen interest in course building so might have an insightful game plan. Moved on to horses this year and has been focusing on producing two novices. Completed the track in 68.18 with 2 down – a total Sportjumping time of 71.18.

Kim Williams (Age 46) Ourida de Petra (Sire: Versailles ii: Dam: Ishsa De Petra) Kim is a full time Mum and has been showjumping for at Kim Williams 5 1.44 sec least 20 years. Has jumped up to 1.20m level although now feels more comfortable jumping around 90cm. Horse has winnings of £641. Completed the track in 67.78 with one down. Total time of 68.78. Jane Abbott (Age 43) Oaklands Silver Sweetheart (Breeding unknown) Jane has jumped up to around 1.20m the past although had a Kim Williams 6 1.8sec serious leg injury and then fell pregnant with twins so hasn’t ridden competitively for around 5 years. Has only had Oaklands Silver Sweetheart for a few months. Has winnings of around £1000. Completed the track in 68.10 seconds with no time to add.

Tony Pearson (Age 47) – Riverside Glen (Breeding Unknown) – Tony is a full time livery yard owner and horse dealer. Previously has Tony Pearson 7 2.16 sec competed up to 1.30m level and has spent the last season jumping around 1.10m. Admits to being a little nervous these days, however Riverside Glen more than makes up for this. With £40,000 worth of winnings and having previously competed with Robert Smith, these two could be very fast. Qualifying time of 73.83. Hanna Mathias (Age 25) – Jean Claude (breeding unknown) Hanna is the daughter of Sue Mathias and is a full time teacher. Has been show Sue Mathias 8 2.52 sec jumping and riding for years, including spending time with the pony club. Horse has around £2500 of winnings. Completed the track in a time of 67.88 but with one down, so a total time if 68.88 under the Sportjumping format. Look out for some mother/daughter rivalry with Sue Mathias.

Abbie McCullock (Age 16) – Regal Clover (Sire: Regal Sting; Dam Castlequinn Clover) Abbie has just recently left ponies and is embarking Kevin Lawrence 9 2.88 sec upon her first year on horses. The pair have been together for just three months and s perhaps don’t know each other as well as some other combinations. Nonetheless, they completed the qualifier in a time 66.96 with no time to add. This combination could be hard to beat if they put set their minds to winning. Martin Brake (Age 45) – Quenza des Tuileres – Although an amateur jockey, Martin should not be underestimated. Has over 30 years in Karen Johnstone 10 3.24 sec the business producing horses to Grade A level. Martin has competed regularly under Sportjumping rules and knows how to get the best out of his horses. This French bred horse is now forming a very good partnership with Martin. They were second in this class at the last Sportjumping final. Veronique Mossaz ( Age 37) Glitterbay ii (Sire Grannex(D); Dam; Kings bid(TB) Veronique is a full time manager who has competed at Veronique Mossaz 11 3.46 sec Advanced level eventing as a young rider as well as being a member of the French Polocrosse Team. Has just started jumping 1.10m classes with this horse. This combination won the qualifier by 2 seconds and we have no doubt that she could be capable of a win. Not just as experienced as Gemma Dickens so not the favourite but by no means far behind. Horse has winnings of £250.00. Gemma Dickens (Age 32) – Oakleys Ace (Sire: Rops Du Vivier: Dam; Roumaine) Gemma is a full time accountant with a wealth of Lesley Dickens 12 3.6 sec showjumping experience under her belt. Jumped successfully in young riders and up to Grade A level. Has won several national championships and has also won a gold medal for team GB in India. Horse has winnings of £6000, rider £16,000. Horse is an ex trotter and has also won various classes including the Hickstead Novice Derby. Completed the track in 63.26 with 1 down, leaving a total time of 64.26.
