World Geography - European Vacation Project – DUE TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2015

Your “family” is going to Europe! Well, virtually that is. Your assignment is to plan a two-week vacation to at least three (maximum five) different European countries (see “Countries by Region” list below for options), including an itinerary and budget. All descriptions of your travels should be in your own words. A final presentation by your group will summarize your trip. You will have one week in class to work on this assignment. This project is worth a test grade.

Itinerary/Budget (Worth 50 points)

For this portion of the project you will need to identify the following:

1. What dates are you going on your vacation? It should span a two week period.

2. Which countries will you be visiting?

3. Using an online booking service such as Orbitz, Expedia, Priceline, etc. determine the following for your flight: -What flight number will you be on? -Which airport is the flight departing from and arriving to? -What time is the flight leaving? -What time will you need to be at the airport?

4. Using online book services such as Orbitz, Expedia, Priceline, etc. determine the following for your hotel: -Which hotel will you be staying at when you first arrive in Europe? -How will you be getting there from the airport? -How many nights will you be staying at the hotel? -What other hotels will you be staying at during your vacation and in which countries are they located?

5. Determine the following regarding your activities: -Describe what you will visit each day during your stay (museums, historical sights, famous shopping areas, outdoor recreational activities, zoos, etc.). -Plan ahead for at least four dinners. What restaurants will you dine at and what is the approximate cost for a meal at each? -How will you get from one destination to another both within a country and to another country. You must take the metro in at least one country. Provide specific details of which metro station you will start at (should be close to your hotel) and which station you will need to get off at based on the activity you are planning.

6. Itemize the cost of each and every element of your vacation in US currency. This includes the following: -Airfare cost (including airfare from the States to Europe and any additional flights you take within Europe) -Transportation costs (including metro use, taxi use, car rental use, rail use) -Cost of all of your activities (museums, sight seeing, etc.)

Presentation (40 points) Each group will be assigned a day on which they will present their trip. The presentation will be assessed on both visual appeal and presentation skills. Each group member should participate in this presentation. The presentation should include the following: -A slide for each day of the vacation that includes activities and actual pictures for the activities. -An overview of your family’s expenses on the trip.

Group Work (10 points – Classwork Grade) Five points will be determined by Mrs. Jolly based on observations throughout the group work days and during presentations. Mrs. Jolly will be looking for focus, even distribution of work, and contributions. The remaining five points will be determined through peer and self evaluations. Suggested Websites
