SECTION 03 0555 Fast Track-24

Specifier Notes: This section covers Valspar Flooring “Fast Track-24”.

Fast Track-24 is a concrete admixture that allows concrete to cure within 24 hours and be coated within this time frame, as opposed to waiting 60 days to apply coatings to concrete surface.

Fast Track-24 conforms to USDA guidelines for use in federally inspected meat and poultry plants.

Consult Federal Flooring for assistance in editing this section for the specific application.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

Specifier Notes: Describe requirements for a meeting to coordinate the placement of the concrete with accelerating admixture and to sequence related work.

A. Preplacement Meeting: Convene a preplacement meeting [2] [ ______] weeks before start of placement of concrete with accelerating admixture. Require attendance of parties directly affecting work of this section, including Contractor, Architect, and manufacturer's representative. Review mixes, surface preparation, presoak, bond coat, placement, curing, protection, priming, and coordination with other work.

1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Delivery: Deliver materials to site in manufacturer's original, unopened containers and packaging, with labels clearly identifying product name, manufacturer, batch or lot number, and date of manufacture.

B.Storage: 1. Store materials in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. 2. Keep containers sealed until ready for use.

C. Handling: Protect materials during handling and placement to prevent damage or contamination.

1.7 ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

A.Do not place materials if floor or air temperature is below 60 degrees F.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1 MANUFACTURER

2.2 CONCRETE ACCELERATING ADMIXTURE

A.Concrete Accelerating Admixture: Fast Track-24. 1. Description: Concrete admixture that allows concrete to cure within 24 hours and be coated within this time frame. 2. Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC): 0.0 g/L. 3. Bond Strength: a. ASTM C 862, Modified: 4,422 psi at 28 days. b. ASTM C 1042: 4,460 psi at 28 days. 4. Compressive Strength, ASTM C 39 and C 1090: a. 1 Day: 5,129 psi. b. 28 Days: 9, 099 psi. 5. Freeze Thaw, ASTM C 666, B: a. Average Durability Factor: 100.0 percent. b. Average Cycles: 300.0. 6. Final Set, ASTM C 403: 3 hours, 33 minutes. 7. Non-Shrink Grout, CRD C 621: 0.00 shrinkage/expansion. 8. Absorption, ASTM C 642: Lower absorption by 10.47 percent. 9. Specific Gravity, ASTM C 642: Higher by 5.94 percent. 10. Voids: ASTM C 642: 8.25 percent less.

2.3 MIXES

A. Proportioning: Proportion mix with concrete accelerating admixture in accordance manufacturer’s instructions.

B.Mix Design: Minimum 4,000 psi at 28 days.

C. Admixtures: 1. Air-entraining admixture only. 2. Do not add fly ash.

D. Cement: Portland cement, ASTM C 150, Type I or III.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1 EXAMINATION

A. Examine surfaces to receive concrete with accelerating admixture. Notify Architect if surfaces are not acceptable. Do not begin surface preparation or placement until unacceptable conditions have been corrected.

Specifier Notes: Delete the surface preparation, presoak, and bond coat articles if not placing on existing concrete.

3.2 SURFACE PREPARATION

A.Prepare surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's instructions and ASTM D 4258.

B. Remove dirt, oil, grease, wax, laitance, curing compounds, water soluble concrete hardeners, and other surface contaminants.

C. Remove sealers, finishes, and paints with PC-43 Wash Off Remover or PC-46 Dry Eze.

D. Remove unsound concrete by scarifying, sand blasting, shot blasting, or high pressure water blasting.

E.Chemical Surface Preparation: 1. Apply chemicals to concrete surface in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions. 2. Remove dirt, oil, and grease with PC-40 Dynomite. 3. Acid-etch with PC-42 Acid Conditioner to remove laitance and to give concrete surface a uniform texture of medium grit sandpaper. 4. Remove acid residue. 5. Rinse thoroughly and let dry. 6. Conform to ASTM D 4260 and D 4262.

F.Mechanical Surface Preparation: 1. Mechanically abrade concrete surface in accordance with manufacturer's instructions, if chemical surface preparation cannot be used. 2. Leave concrete surface with a uniform texture of medium grit sandpaper. 3. Remove concrete dust. 4. Conform to ASTM D 4259.

3.3 PRESOAK

A.Presoak with water area to be overlayed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

3.4 BOND COAT

A. After presoaking, remove standing water, remoisten with concrete accelerating admixture solution, broadcast fresh cement on dampened surface, and work sufficient amount of cement into surface to create a thick consistency.

3.5 PLACEMENT

A. Mix cement and sand to consistency desired for placement and thoroughly consolidate mixture in overlay or patch area. 3.6 CURING

A.Cure concrete in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions.

3.7 PROTECTION

Specifier Notes: The following cure times are based on an air temperature of 70 degrees F. For lower or higher air temperatures, consult Federal Flooring for minimum cure times.

A.Protect concrete floor from tire and foot traffic for a minimum of 4 hours.

Specifier Notes: Delete the following article if the concrete surface will not receive a coating.

3.8 PRIMING

A. Apply required primer in accordance with manufacturer's instructions before coating concrete surface.
