Dear Student Teacher, Welcome to Friendship School. We are a K-8 school and have been in this community since 1950. Our school motto is “Everyone is welcome at Friendship School’ and we are very glad to have you here for your student teaching placement! I understand that this year will be one that is both exciting for you as well as stressful. Part of the stress comes from not knowing what to expect. I would like to invite you to come visit our classroom and tour the school so you can begin to become part of our school community. My name is Shawna Goodheart and I thought you would like to know a little bit about me. I have been an elementary teacher for 10 years and always in the 5th grade. I have mentored student teachers in the past and look forward to working with you. I have degrees in Elementary Education and as a Reading Specialist. I work on many different school committees and you are welcome to attend any of these with me. School-wide, we have been working on the co-teaching model. I am presently working with Mr. Parker, the learning support teacher, in our three language arts periods each day. Mr. Parker and I meet every Friday (2nd period) to plan our co-teaching for the up-coming week. We are looking forward to your involvement in these planning meetings each week. I have attached our weekly schedule to this letter. School starts at 9:00 a.m. and we will meet each day at 8:15 a.m. to preview the day. The day goes by quickly, with lots happening, but we will have time at the end of the day (3:15 p.m.) to review our instruction. This will be the time when I will review your lesson plans for the next day.
