The North Carolina National Guard is a constitutionally established modern military organization that is deployed both globally and across North Carolina and is directly responsible to the Governor of North Carolina and the President of the United States. In North Carolina the National Guard is a division of the North Carolina Department of Public Safety. It’s 12,000 members come from all 100 counties of the state and have backgrounds in every discipline and origin imaginable. Internships with the North Carolina National Guard will be challenging and rewarding. Interns will work with some of the most modern equipment in a professional environment that is fast paced and part of the national strategy for public safety. Interns can expect to work alongside full time staff members of the Army and Air Force, Federal and State Employees along with various contractors and industry partners. Internship Title: Master Planning Intern

Status: Non-paid position. Highly qualified candidates may be offered a position as full time employees at the end of the internship period depending upon available government funding.

Duration: Minimum duration of internship is one college semester, with two semesters preferred (4-8 months average).

Duty Description: Assists the Director of Plans and Programming in preparation of long-range construction plan to support NCNG Capital Investment Strategy. The candidate should be prepared to utilize talents in several disciplines, particularly in-depth programming, land use planning, and facilities location optimization. Will work as part of a large engineering and planning team that is responsible for more than 100 government facilities across the entire state. Internship Title: Geographic Information System (GIS) Planner/Operator

Duty Description: Assists the Director of Engineering Plans and Programming with developing a strategy for the GIS and Master Planning team to produce seamless data collection, input, and analysis of real property and other community and environmental factors.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1. Develop data collections strategies in order to create NCNG GIS as the database of record for the State .

2. Ability to import/export data from GIS, shape files, and raster data into other databases in order to analyze data.

3. Understanding of the topography and geology across the state is a plus.

4. Ability to develop a comprehensive strategy for use of GIS in Master Planning and engineering.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

1. Highly developed skills with Autodesk AutoCAD 2D and 3D are encouraged.

2. Will help to establish strategy development on use of AutoCAD within the organization.

3. Develop training plans to improve Project Management personnel in using AutoCAD.

4. Ideal candidates have base knowledge of importing AutoCAD into GIS but not essential.

1. Strong research abilities are essential. Candidates will become familiar with historical documents, constitutional issues, state and federal policy or regulations, state and federal statutes, and national military strategy.

4. Familiar with basic aspects of law, politics, and public opinion.
