Dear Student,

Thank you for your interest in the Spartanburg Kennel Club, Inc. Veterinary Grant. The program, administered by the Spartanburg Kennel Club, Inc., is intended to help those who want to further their education in the area of veterinary medicine. Grants are awarded on an objective basis without regard to race, color, age, religion, or gender.

Applications for the upcoming academic year will be accepted until July 1st each year. Awards will be announced by the first Thursday in August of each year, at the meeting of the Spartanburg Kennel Club, Inc. Completed applications (including transcripts, and letters of recommendation) must be received by the Scholarship Committee on or before July 1st. Any application received after the July 1st deadline will not be considered.

To be considered for this grant, you must:

 Be graduated or about to graduate from an accredited university and be enrolled as a full- time student in the field for Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine or a Certification Program for Veterinary Technicians/ Assistants.  Demonstrate the character and motivation to complete your education.  Exhibit a desire to promote purebred dogs in the upstate of South Carolina.  Submit a completed application PLUS a 250 word essay AND any additional documents required by the Spartanburg Kennel Club, Inc. All documents must be received by July 1st, prior to the start of the academic year.  Be willing to make a presentation to the Spartanburg Kennel Club membership on a topic in veterinary medicine.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING APPLICATION PACKET

A. When you sign the application you are attesting to the accuracy of all information furnished in your application. Applications which are not signed will not be considered.

B. If the space provided in the application is not sufficient to fully answer any section, one or more additional pages may be attached to the application to complete your response. Please reference the section number for which additional information is being provided on the supplemental page.

C. Official transcript(s) from your college(s) are required. YOU MUST SEND YOUR OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS WITH YOUR APPLICATION PACKET. We suggest that you make this request as soon as possible in order for your transcripts to arrive in time to meet our application deadline. When you receive your official transcripts, DO NOT open them. Send the sealed envelope with your packet. Opened transcripts will not be accepted and will make your application ineligible. Transcripts that arrive separately will also make your application ineligible.

D. You must arrange for TWO individuals who are not related to you but are familiar with your achievements, abilities, and character to provide a letter of recommendation. BOTH letters must be submitted with this application. Letters of reference should be directed to the scholarship selection committee, reviewing your educational and career goals, not written as if you are seeking employment.

E. Neatness, legibility, spelling, grammar, following instructions, and providing the information requested is essential. PLEASE TYPE OR BLOCK PRINT each of your answers.

F. The application form is designed to accommodate applications for two different types of grants, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or a Certified Veterinary Assistant / Technician.

G. Write your essay with the thought in mind that you are addressing a group of people who know nothing about you. Be truthful, to the point, and make sure the essay helps the committee understand why getting a grant is important to you and how you will use your education to make life better. The essay topic is “How you intend to be involved in the sport of purebred dogs in the Upstate of South Carolina”. The essay must be typed or machine-printed and may not be handwritten. After the recipient has been awarded the grant, they will be required to present this essay to the membership of the Spartanburg Kennel Club.

H. If you want to be assured that we have received your application or any other correspondence, we recommend that you send it certified mail, return receipt requested.

I. Our letter notifying you that you have been selected to receive a grant, requires a response from you. We ask that you adhere to the response deadlines given to you. In the event we do not receive a response by the deadline specified, we will assume your plans have changed

Should your address change after you have given it to us, it is your responsibility to send us your new address.

I hereby authorize Spartanburg Kennel Club, Inc. to investigate in any manner which it, in its discretion, deems necessary to determine the accuracy of the statements made in this application and my eligibility for aid. I understand that if I accept a Spartanburg Kennel Club, Inc. Scholarship that I must be a full-time student and by failing to complete the academic year at the educational institution of my choice except for reasons of illness, injury, or national disaster, I will be obligated to return any scholarship granted to me by Spartanburg Kennel Club, Inc.

I also understand that the maximum value of a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine Scholarship is $2000.00 and that the Veterinary Assistant/Technician will be based on the cost of tuition charged by the accredited university selected for that proposed course of study.
