BCTRA PRESENTS:

Beyond the Feedback Sandwich: Using Advocacy-Inquiry Techniques for Excellence as a TR Clinical Preceptor and Team Leader

Speaker: Bev Suntjens, BA (Recreation Therapy)

In this 2-part workshop, participants will explore the feedback skills necessary to meet clinical supervision and mentoring competencies. Using the steps of the Advocacy-Inquiry method of providing feedback (Rudolph et al, 2007), participants will work through realistic (and challenging) practicum scenarios. Participants of past sessions have expressed that this new style of providing feedback has also furthered their competency as a Team Leader.

The Learning Objectives for this session include: 1. To complete a self-inventory to explore professional weaknesses, strengths, and “frames” as a clinical preceptor 2. To define feedback, and describe the steps of the Advocacy- Inquiry method of providing feedback – how you can use it as a preceptor to maximize student performance (Rudolph et al., 2007) 3. To demonstrate the ability to address issues employing Advocacy- Inquiry feedback techniques in some TR-specific scenarios
