Upward Bound Is a Year-Round Educational Program That Helps Rising Sophomore, Junior, And

pward Bound is a year-round educational program that helps 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade high school school students make the successful transition from high school into U college. Students in Upward Bound attend a day-long session, called the Saturday Academy, at Pace University’s Manhattan campus on Saturdays during the academic year. During the summer, the Upward Bound Summer Academy meets each weekday, for a total of six weeks. Five weeks are spent on the Pace campus in Manhattan, and one week is spent in residence at Pace’s Pleasantville campus. Students in Upward Bound take a variety of classes during the Saturday and Summer Academies. Classes include SAT Prep for juniors, all levels of math, English, US and global history, chemistry, biology, essay writing, literature, study skills, fitness, college prep, a college level class, and a variety of enrichment classes. In addition, we have college admission representatives and career speakers visit us throughout the Saturday and Summer academies. This gives the students the opportunity to learn about different colleges, and career paths. Students who are in good standing with the program will receive a $40 monthly stipend during the school year, a $15 a week stipend during the summer, and a metrocard for transportation to the program. Lunch is also provided to all students.

tudents who are accepted into Upward Bound are required to make a commitment – of attendance and performance—to the program. Students are required to attend the entire S summer program (all 6 weeks) and throughout the school year. Only students who are fully committed to Upward Bound, and their own educational goals, will benefit from the program. tudents in Upward Bound work one-on-one with our trained college counselors, and our nationally recognized Director of College Placement and Internships to develop a list of S potential college options, and work through the college application process including writing essays, learning of scholarship opportunities, and filling out financial aid forms. UB alumni are accepted to, attend, and graduate from colleges across the country. Some of the schools where our Upward Bound alumni are attending (or graduated from) include Barnard College, Bates College, Bowdoin College, Duke University, NYU, Pitzer College, Skidmore College, St. Lawrence University, St. Michael’s College, Syracuse University, and Whitman College.
