Algebra is a graduation requirement, as is passing the Algebra High School Assessment. This course is designed to introduce students to those ideas preparing them for Algebra I.

2. Students will bring all supplies necessary to class each day including pencils, paper, calculators, binder/notebook, and their book, leaving inappropriate things in their locker.

3. All assignments will be turned in on time. Please refer to the make up and homework policies for more information.

4. Students should bring their own calculators to class, as they will not be provided. The following should be considered: A. Any graphing calculator will let you “get by” B. Answers alone will receive a score of 0. 7. Students are expected to keep a notebook and take notes everyday. They are expected to keep all materials from this class in a binder, spiral and/or folder.

8. Students must treat all members of this class, both adults and students, with respect.

9. Students will not be allowed to leave at the end of class until their areas are clean. The students will be dismissed by the teacher and not the bell. _____

Policies:

Food and drink Students will not be permitted to bring food or drink into class. The only exception is water. Any other items will be discarded and will follow the appropriate discipline.

Restroom Use Students will not be allowed to use the restroom during teacher directed activities (ex. Notes) except in emergencies. If restroom use becomes a problem, students will be issued a limited number of restroom passes Test vs. Quiz Quizzes in this class will serve as an intermediate check of your progress through a unit. Most quizzes will be announced, but some will be a surprise . Surprise Quizzes will be open note. Tests are closed notes/book. Students may use calculators on Tests, and Quizzes, unless otherwise noted. No help of any kind will be provided during an assessment. __

Make up Policy When absent, check the make up folder. Any assignments in that folder will be due in two days, including tests and quizzes. Assignments given before your absence will be due the day after your return. All make up work is entirely the responsibility of the student. They are also responsible for any notes they may have missed. As per FCPS policy, work missed for an illegal absence will not receive credit, which includes tests and quizzes. Work can be made up for 50% credit until the Test on a unit has been given.

Retake Students will not be allowed to retake any assessment in this class. For this reason it is very important to get tutoring BEFORE any test or quiz as necessary.

Homework Homework will be assigned and collected randomly. If a student does not have a completed homework assignment, then he or she will be assigned an academic afterschool detention. If the homework is turned in by 2:20 pm the next day, this will satisfy the detention. If the missing work is not turned in, the student must serve the afterschool and will use that time to complete the assignment.

Tutoring Tutoring will be offered only until 3:00. This is not a lot of time and therefore students must come to tutoring with the material they want to work on, notes on subject to be taught and their textbook. Consequences 1. Warning 2. 2 minute retention after class 3. Detention and Phone call home 4. Office Referral

(If a behavioral detention is assigned it MUST be served. If parents are unable to arrange transportation, they must call Mr. Calhoun before the detention date.)

Cheating Students found to be cheating in any way will be given a zero for that assignment and referred to the office. Cheating includes but is not limited to coping another students work, allowing another to copy or sharing answers. For more information on what constitutes cheating, please see Frederick County policy.
