Before doing this exercise, please go online and read the following stuff:

1. For getting a rough idea about LexisNexis click: http://www.lexisnexis.com/productsandservices/ , and go through the product and service list of LexisNexis.

2. Before doing Q 1, 2, 3, and 4, please read “LexisNexis at www.nexis.com User Guide” http://www.lexisnexis.com/literature/pdfs/NXE00399-1.pdf

3. Logging on to www.nexis.com and doing the following exercise:

Q1: Click on Market Indicators (under Market Information on the right)

 in search enter IBM, click Submit query. Instead of IBM you can enter the name or symbol for your favorite company.  print the result to hand in.  go further: enter again IBM and then under drop-down menu next to company you entered choose Stock Charts. Click Submit Query.  then point your mouse arrow at some point on the graph. Click. See what you get. Click on another point. Nothing to hand in on this one.

Next:

Q2: Click Home to get back to the first page.

 in Quick Search enter Halloween; in drop-down menus select default All these sources and Previous 60 days.  explore what you get. Pick up your favorite one. Print it and hand in.  note the types of items and their sources you get. Click on some URLs and some documents to go further.  on the top under Focus Search Within Results: enter accidents. Click Search Within Results.  note what you get. Explore some items. Nothing to hand in. Click Home

Q3: Click Power Search

 under Sources to click the first drop-down menu select News, Most Recent 60 Days.  enter Halloween w/7 costumes and child.  check the first item (or any one item of your choice). Click KWIC. See what you get. Hand in.

Next in Power Search play with source selection to get additional

Q4: Sources:

 under Sources again select News, All and then  click Find more sources, then People Business and Asset Locators, then Person Locator, then Directories, then on Gale Biographies click add. Click Done on the right. You have selected now one source, you can add to your list of sources as many as you want, and they will be there permanently for you.  under Enter terms type Bill Gates (or any other person you are interested in). First select Sort by date and then click Back, try sort by relevance.  look at some entries. Hand one in. 4. 5. Logging on to www.lexis.com and providing relevant documents for the users.

Q6: A user resorted to a librarian. She described her situation, and said “A neighbor's pool is leaking hundreds of gallons of water a day, which has flooded my yard. The neighbor has been made aware of the problem and refuses to make any remedy. Is there a statute regarding illegal ponding or the flooding of my property?”
