Winter Concert a Hit with Audience By Alyce Archuleta, Friend of the Library
It was the perfect place and the perfect day for the spirited classical music concert presented by the Kensington Trio. The sun was shining and Santa Ana conditions made all the mountains surrounding San Diego visible from the Park Laurel penthouse overlooking Balboa Park where the event was held. Pianist Ronald Morebello, violinist Natalka Kytasty, and cellist Yuri Kytasty played trios by Beethoven and Chopin; and tangos by Spanish, Argentine and Uruguayan composers. The enthusiastic response of the listeners resulted in a delightful encore.
At the reception following the concert, guests sipped champagne and wine, nibbled cheese donated by Venissimo on bread donated by Bread & Cie, and enjoyed the lovely venue and views from windows and balconies.
Friends of the Mission Hills-Hillcrest Branch Library are excited about the success of this home concert, proceeds of which will benefit the Mission Hills Branch Library. Our branch library is one of the smallest in the City and lacks the performance space other libraries have for community events. Until we have a new, larger facility that makes cultural programming possible, we are hoping to find residents of Mission Hills, Hillcrest, Bankers Hill, Parkwest, Middle Town, and Old Town who are willing to make their homes available for future library concerts. If you, or someone you know, has a home they would like to share with their neighbors and fellow library lovers for library musical events, please call Philip Detwiler, Branch Manager, Mission Hills Branch Library, 619-692-4910. A grand piano is a big plus, but we can bring in a piano if one is not available.
Friends of the Library plan to host two concerts in Spring 2007. Watch for information in this publication and at the Mission Hills Branch Library about when and where. Plan to join us in our next musical adventure.
